I had GD with both pregnancies. C-sections with both.

I didn't have any skin to skin with my first. He was born at 34 weeks 6 days (pre-e and HELLP) after a quick here he is look be was being evaluated by NICU and eventually taken there. I couldn't hold him until he was 4 days old. Longest 4 days of my life. As soon as I held him....all was right with the world!

With my 2nd (39 weeks 1 day) he also was taken to NICU. I did get a look and to hold him for a few minutes while they were closing me, but as soon as NICU team arrived, they took him. Once they monitored him to be sure he wasn't having sugar issues, he was brought to my room--maybe 3 hours later?

With all that said....I had GD with both and neither had hypoglycemia issues at all. bonding was not an issue with either.

We did. With DD #1, we didn't do that. I got to hold her immediately but there was no skin-on-skin, in fact I'm not really sure if I even fed her right away. This was 5 years ago. A couple months ago when I had DS we did a full hour of skin-on-skin and nursing. We were getting bombarded with "SHOW US A PICTURE" texts from all of my family who couldn't handle waiting that long after he was born. lol. Grandma was begging to come with my DD to meet him and DH was anxious to hold him as well. But that hour was amazing. I think it was so important both for DS and me. I highly recommend it. Just turning off all phones and focusing only on that baby and this special bonding time. Announcements, pictures, visits (and even daddy) can all wait that hour. Chat Icon

I delivered at Stony Brook with a midwife in 2014. When DD was almost out, they had me reach down and pull her the rest of the way out right onto my chest. She stayed there for at least an hour. She started nursing within 15 minutes of being in my chest. They did check her while on my chest and then weighed her afterward. They didn't measure her length for a while after that. I LOVED that hour Chat Icon They also do delayed cord clamping as standard practice.

YES!!
WITH DD1- she was slightly warm, so no skin to skin

DS- yes, skin to skin but I don't remember how long- I just remember this warm gooey baby on me and I loved it. I actually craved that feeling again and couldn't wait to have another baby.

dd- 9 months old right now. lots of skin to skin- she was there on my chest for at least 40 min, maybe an hour and I loved it.
