Passed The English Regent's!
I just want to share that my 11th grader passed his English Regent's on the first try! We were fully prepared for him to fail it and have to re-take in June (I know that sounds bad, but I'm realistic in his abilities, and cannot write an essay well at all). He ended up with a 55! Exactly what he needed to pass! The stars were aligned that day, his aide and I told him to just keep on writing. His classmates took their full 6 hours, he was done in 3, so I figured the writing was written on the wall. I figured he "rushed" so to speak, and that was that. So I was very surprised, and VERY happy when I found out he passed.
I know there aren't too many older kids on here with special needs, but there IS hope! I really didn't think a HS diploma was in his reach with these testing requirements. I've cried many nights about it. But he is almost there. He just has to pass his US History, and I know he can do that one. Plus he can borrow points from his science he passed last year.
He has some accommodations for these tests, which I highly recommend you getting put in place when your child gets to high school. He has double time, a separate location, a scribe (he has fine motor issues), and he is also allowed to type the essay portions.

That is so great! My son is still young but its still good to know this info for when he gets older. I am also part of a special needs parent group on Facebook and I see that there is talk about how they changed the diploma options. I don't know too much about it. So glad that your son passed.

Yes they changed the options when he entered 9th grade! So frustrating and SO unfair!! Basically if they don't pass the Regent's, they receive a certificate. Not a diploma. A certificate is pretty much useless in the real world, and a slap in the face for the hard work and struggle they have went through!
I know many educators are advocating to get rid of the Regent's requirement, but who knows if that will ever come to fruition!
