Do you report a fall in office to HR?
Update: Thanks all for suggestions! Have a meeting to discuss the fall with HR later.
I fell in the office yesterday walking from the kitchen (where the printer is) back to my desk. I caught myself with my hands and knees but I twisted my ankle pretty badly. The most important thing is that my baby is okay, I'm 7 months pregnant but didn't land on my belly and felt him right away.
I was wearing wedged boots with rubber soles but the floor is linoleum and slippery. I'm sure it was my fault, I was walking pretty fast (I left a ton of scuff marks on the floor). Do I still report it to HR even if it was my fault? My ankle feels really horrible today so I had to take a cab to work.
I wasn't going to report it to HR but my mother says you should report all these things. Is that true?

I think you should, yes, because it happened on their property. Regardless if you were walking too quickly or whatnot. I'd still report it, just in case. Hope you feel better.

The only reason to report it is if you're looking to claim some sort of disability payment from the company, coverage from a doctor visit, or time off from work.
If you think any of the above are possible, you shoudl report now rather than wait, but otherwise, i don't see a reason to report

I would report it. I would want something on record incase I had an issue with the ankle. And incase anyone else falls in the same spot. They need to keep the floors dry.

Yes, you should. If you need medical attention, then your insurance company will require you to answer certain questions, such as "Did this happen at your place of work?" If you never reported it to your office, then they have no proof that it actually happened there.
ETA: You're actually protecting yourself by reporting it.

Do you report a fall in office to HR?
Yes. If you have an insurance/risk management dept then to them.
It could be a work comp claim and if you have to go to Dr etc for your ankle then Work Comp pays

We have to report even near misses (i.e. Slipped but didn't fall) to our environmental health and safety staff. One of our floors was pretty slippery a few weeks ago (also linoleum ). Several people reported it and they immediately came out and cleaned it.

Yes, your office will have to provide notice of an incident to their workers' comp policy provider.

Do you report a fall in office to HR?
Thanks all! I am meeting with someone from HR later to file a report. I just never dealt with something like this and hate "sue happy" people so don't want to come off that way. But HR said they would rather have it on file no matter what.

It's not sue happy. You are helping them as much as you. Say you don't report it and someone else gets seriously injured. Is it worth it? Look WC has a waiting period of X days before you get reimbursed for days off work. Medical bills are always paid. You can't directly sue for injuries because that's the PURPOSE of Workers Comp. By reporting it you are helping your company protect it's most vital asset, it's employees. Something small could protect them from a major loss.
Chin up!

Re: Do you report a fall in office to HR?
I should find out. One of my coworkers fell during the blizzard while at work. I think he filed an accident report and gave it to one of the day managers.
