Sad but true
This was me on the subway this morning! Only way I get a seat is if there is already one open when I walk on the subway car. I don't get offered seats.

Ugh, it's the worst. I remember a lady offering me a seat on a C train once and I started crying because I was so happy.

They really are so bad. I actually had a guy tell me to GET UP on Friday because he was man spreading and I bumped him with my leg when I sat down. He said he was disabled- though he seemed to have no problem stretching out- so I said yeah, well I'm pregnant. And he told me "Well that's YOUR problem." Quite the gentleman.

Re: Saw this today on my newsfeed...made me think of past posts
When I lived in Forest Hills and was pg, I'd leave early to take the local train since it started there and I could always get a seat. If I took the Express, it would be packed and I rarely got offered a seat then. I had to leave at least 20 minutes earlier to take the local but it was worth it.
When I was pg with my second, I was taking the LIRR in. I usually always got a seat, but once there were problems and i had to stand. Not a single person offered me a seat and I was VERY pregnant and VERY swollen.
I'd never let a pregnant woman (or elderly or disabled person) stand and have given my seats up often, but the same isn't true for everyone. Very sad. When I was in FHs, there was often a blind man who would ride the subways. I only saw 1 person ever give up a seat for him. Come on people!

OMG! I don't know if I could contain myself in that situation!
I forgot about this story! Last week I finally got a seat when someone got off the train and an elderly man with a cane walked on. I looked around and nobody else was getting up so I offered him my seat, he gladly accepted. A young guy standing next to where I was said, "Wait, that's now how it's supposed to work!" I said I'm used to not sitting so not a big deal. He then loudly expressed his disapproval of the pregnant woman giving up a seat for the elderly man so everyone could hear. It was a really nice gesture (he probably has a pregnant wife at home) but it definitely didn't change anything!

Oh don't worry- my response was colorful! And a few stops later about 4 seats opened up. I refused to move so he could stretch himself out.
I used to try and shame people into getting up for the pregnant women or people babywearing and I think it worked all of ONE time. The best is when they "pretend" not to see the very pregnant woman standing directly in front of them.

I was always offered a set on the subway or bus in the city. In fact, the bus driver on the express bus would pull over a block from the stop if he saw I was walking to the stop. Another driver refused to drive until I was seated so I didn't fall.
LIRR? Not only would I not get a seat, I'd get pushed out of the way on the platform.
