When looking for a new job what do you do?
DH's company is undergoing a re-org and they will be changing his title and position. It's a position that would completely change his role, so he is planning to find a new job. He updated his resume and portfolio and posted on Angel List. He has had calls with maybe 8 recruiters and 3 companies in the past week. Every day he is talking about a different company or recruiter that reached out to him. Is this how people find jobs these days? They post to a website and wait for people to call them?
I feel like it's too much. I feel like he should focus on maybe his top 3 and then expand from there. He is afraid other jobs won't be available if he waits that long.
ETA I am in a very specialized field. When I am looking for a job I go online, research openings and maybe in a 30 mile radius there will be 1-2 openings that fit. If there are 3 it's a hot month, so I know nothing about tech businesses and stuff.

He is doing the right thing. He needs to network as much as possible and keep getting his resume out there. Just because an interview goes well doesn't guarantee him the job. There are many qualified candidates these days.

Ok, thanks. Some of the companies he is looking into would require 2-3 interviews with a project they would give him 2 days to complete. 2 companies would mean a flight to other parts of the country. I just can't imagine being able to put 100% in an interview, and best market myself when I've got that much going on. That's why I am in a totally different field

He's doing the right thing. I have 3 interviews tomorrow alone. I have been spending about an hour a night sending out about 10 resumes/applications a night, averaging 1-3 return calls per day. I will use whatever networking is available to me. For DH's last job, he was flown out to Minnesota for a final interview on the company's private jet.

I would start by looking only on Long Island.
All kidding aside, I hope P finds a great job that he's happy at.

People don't just post their resume and wait for people to contact them. They apply to positions on various employment sites and LinkedIn, etc.
And IMO he should take all of the calls that he gets, not just focus on the top 3. Now, if they are asking him to do outlandish things then maybe he can hold them off a bit, but at least we found with my DH's job search earlier this year its better to keep all avenues open as long as possible so you have more options.

Hey, let's be flexible now!!! I guess we can also entertain NYC and all the boroughs! One of the companies is in NYC. Although he would be interviewing for 1 of 2 open roles. One is in NYC and the other is in San Francisco. He has to be willing to take either if he gets it.

Most of my friends who changed jobs recently were higher ed through recruiters, I think one contacted the recruiter & others posted on LinkedIN & had recruiters call them.
