Some of those are deeply disturbing. Especially the one with the twin daughters. There are really, really sick people in this world

Re: infographic of gun violence this year
Terrifying. I had planned to vote Bernie in the primaries, but I might just need to shift to Hilary. Gun control is my #1 concern at this point.
If I thought I could convince DH to move and we could find jobs, I would move out of the USA....Finland, Sweden, Iceland, New Zealand. If only I had a knack for picking up foreign languages! This is not the environment I want my children growing up in. Something needs to change.

And this is just MASS shootings. So how would it look if we included those where "only" 3 or less were shot?
But we don't have a gun problem. Nope.

Because they are so common place they only get reported locally. Need mass casualties (or in public places) for it to be sensational enough to get national attention.

there were a few mass casualties that I knew of (one in upstate NY particularly) and they were all listed. It is heartbreaking and infuriating to see them all laid out like that.

I was hesitant to open this thread... I read the first few from this list and stopped with the one about the twins and broke out in tears. This issue is truly disturbing to me. Me heart aches for all the innocent victims of these crimes.

Here's what's missing from the chart: how many of the guns used in the shootings were obtained illegally. Remember, gun laws will only help if people follow the law. The bad guy never follows a law, and he will always find a way to get a gun.

Sandy hook and San bernadino- legally obtained. I didn't even look at the chart but I'm sure many other of those were as well.
ETA: http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/10/03/us/how-mass-shooters-got-their-guns.html
"The guns used in 15 recent mass shootings, including the attack in San Bernardino, were bought legally. At least eight gunmen had criminal histories or documented mental health problems that did not prevent them from obtaining their weapons."

Here's what missing from your post: the fact that gun laws are too lenient. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/11/12/us/gun-traffickers-smuggling-state-gun-laws.html?_r=0

Our country has a MAJOR drug issue, and drugs are illegal. If someone is insane enough to commit a mass murder, they are going to find a gun somewhere, their main objective is to kill, and a law is not going to stop them. There are gun dealers out there just like there are drug dealers.
I believe we need stricter laws for those applying for gun permits, but I want the right to own a gun and keep one in my home for protection. The government should not be able to take away my right to bare arms. The government is way too involved in our lives as it is.
AND just to add, what just happened in CA, they had bombs, not just guns. So, if you can't get a gun, you can always go to ISIS to learn how to make a bomb from a remote control car.
Sick world!!

And even that hasn't changed anything. If 20 first graders being shot in cold blood but some lunatic with an assault rifle did nothing to change the laws in this country...I don't know what would

So, do nothing? Don't even try? (though I know in some of those cases the guns WERE legally obtained)
Forget the mass shootings for a minute, what about all the KIDS killed by their parents' (or other family members) leally obtained guns?

Nope. It gets lots of thoughts and prayers though.
I don't know what will get people motivated for change but I for one have certainly been doing what I can.

Most gun control advocates aren't saying take away guns. Just make it harder to get one. I posted an article above that said- The guns used in 15 recent mass shootings, including the attack in San Bernardino, were bought legally. At least eight gunmen had criminal histories or documented mental health problems that did not prevent them from obtaining their weapons.
That's not right. My right to live, for my children to live, without getting gunned down in a movie theater or mall or at school trumps the right of these lunatics with histories of mental health issues and/or criminal backgrounds of their right to bear arms.

This is where I'm at. Where does my right to live come in against the right to bear arms? No one is taking that right away-- just making controls in order to get a gun.
I just don't get how anyone can say NOOOO, right to bear arms is in the Constitution, so you can't change it! Really? Where are your critical thinking skills? The Amendment is old and poorly written. Changes and restrictions need to be made.

Thank you!!!
The 2nd amendment is a total anachronism; it comes from a time immediately after we won our independence from Britain in part by arming civilians BECAUSE WE INITIALLY DID NOT HAVE OUR OWN MILITARY, which is NOT a problem anymore.
