"Obamacare"- question
My co-worker married a girl that was attending NYU... He adds her to his insurance plan. Aetna makes him back pay $1300 for her not having insurance.
How can this be if she is just joining in November?
Why not just pay the penalty at tax time?
I'm not sure what the point is in the $1300 back pay...
Any information??

I don't know a lot about obamacare but this sounds like it has to do with the premium tax credit. The penalty for lack of coverage would get paid to the IRS not the insurance company.
