Compassionate Transfer
I posted on here regularly while trying to conceive my DD a few years ago. She is now 2.5 and we have been TTC #2 since she was 6 months old. I've had two failed frozen cycles and one frozen cycle that ended in a miscarriage. I am not there just yet, but I am very close to ending this journey. Even if I try one more cycle, I have 17 frozen embryos left! Has anyone ever done or spoken to their doc about a compassionate transfer? Is this just an idea that is online but not really an option in real life? My RE is not the most understanding of people and I would like to get a feeling for what other doctors have told patients. Thanks for the advice.

so they can be destroyed naturally I guess. thereby not having to decide to destroy them in a lab, donate, etc.
that would be my guess...

Supposedly they transfer when you have no chance of getting pregnant in your cycle but I still think a Dr isn't going to transfer 17 at once. So you might have to do a few transfers
I would ask your Dr. But when you froze your what did you right down as your decision to do if there were left over embryos?

I sympathize with you because I am very grateful that I did not have any embryos left over, but honestly I can't see putting your body and mind through additional transfers if the point is to essentially destroy them anyway. This is a technicality I never understand. Is it that big a difference if they come to a natural conclusion in a Petri dish or in your uterus? I know it's a difficult decision but I can't imagine putting my body through that. Good luck :(

As someone considering moving forward with IVF I have struggled over what would become of any frozen embryos. I can totally understand how this would feel better than the alternative. Maybe for me it would be a psychological thing. Good luck and I am curious to see if as you say this is real or just an idea on the internet.

Ive never heard of a compassionate transfer until this post but I can see why you may want to do that. Deciding what to do with frozen embies is such a hard thing to do...I hope you get the answers you are looking for and let us know what the outcome is.

Hmm, I have heard of compassionate transfer but I'm not sure how a clinic concerned with SART #s handles that. However, it doesn't hurt to ask. There are many people with religious belief that make IVF uncomfortable, so I'm sure the option exists out there for you.
Have you considered biopsying them for PGS? If many of them are revealed to have chromosomal abnormalities not compatible with life would it still feel uncomfortable to "discard" them? You may save yourself some heartache that way. Just a thought.
