What would your position be ?

I have been trying to order something from Wayfair since last night. The original price is $2,396, then there is a red price that shows $1,189 and the item clearly says sale. However, when I click on the item (I'm using a tablet), the item shows as $589, but when I put it in my cart it goes back to the $1,189 price.

So, I called them a few hours ago, and after being put on hold for 15 minutes was told that it was "probably" a glitch only affecting tablets and that it would be fixed in a few minutes but that the price was most definitely $1,189. Now, more than 3 hours later its still showing as $589 and I still haven't ordered it.

What do you think the price should be?? Frankly, I feel they should honor the price, given I've waited three

Well, in a store if an item is marked incorrectly they honor that price.

So, I would guess that online it should be the same procedure.

I would say if the price is adding to your cart at 1189, and not 589 then that is the price it should be.

That was the way I felt three hours ago. However, I felt compelled to call, as it was a $500 plus difference. But, I was told to wait to order and it would be a few minutes. Three hours later, I'm feeling like they should honor the price. Just trying to gauge whether I'm being ridiculous.

screen shot the price and send them an email TELLING them that the price is showing as $589, but when you add it to your cart it's $1189 - what is the problem? You want to place the order over the phone for $589 if there's a 'glich' in their system, that's THEIR problem

I guess it depends...Are you unable to place the order? If you are able to place the order at $1189 then I wouldn't expect a price adjustment, I would just place the order. If you are unable to place the order then there is nothing you can do but wait, does mean they should honor the price. But to be safe maybe ask for confirmation of a price adjustment if the price does in fact drop to $589. Get it in writing or have them make a note in the system.

Are there multiple sizes of the item? If no, then screen shot the price and tell them it is "deceptive advertising" to offer one price and charge another.

If the table was 1000 and marked for 10.000 I could see them arguing mistake sucessfully.

this is what I would do.

I was ordering something off a site and the same thing was happening. they honored the price I was seeing. I sent them a screen shot of how it was coming up on my tablet.

of course the price difference was under $10 and now I am not sure if was price or shipping but either way I was getting it for what was showing up on the tablet.

They've already addressed possible mistakes and typos on their site:

I had the same problem with wayfair a few months ago. They gave me the price shown even though it was more when added to my cart. It wasn't as big of a price difference though. I guess it depends who you get on the phone.

Re: What would your position be ?

Just to update, I called them back and was pretty persistent. Their best offer was to take just under $300.00 off the $1,189 price. All in all not terrible and as I was talking to them, I did read their "policy" posted by Golden Rod.

Re: What would your position be ?

Honeslty as much as we all want cheap items, I think if the price seems ridiculous and unlikely, then I think it's unfair to expect to pay that price, despite the error. I would add it to my cart and if the 1189 seems more like a good "real" price, I would be fine with that. I wouldn't want something for practically free, errors do happen and it's not like you aren't aware of what it "should" cost.

I troll a few deal sites that post pricing mistakes and errors at times in addition to normal good closeouts and deals. Lots of people pile on to order, and most of the time, they are all canceled with an apology email.

I think you lucked out with getting the discount you got.
Basically, if it is really a price mistake, they are well within their rights to cancel the order. Even if you could check out at the lower price.
