No credit for Newsday Vacation hold
We recently went on vacation for 1 week. When we returned I found out that the hold I had on Newsday was not credited. When I called, they said they no longer issue a credit when you are away. They charge you to "hold" your paper and so you can have access to their online paper. I told them they are stealing from their customers! My contract ends next week (I had a promo deal) and I told them I will not be renewing because I'm so angry. They tried to save face and credited me the week.
BUT it got me wondering how many other people are they stealing from!!!!
ETA: They told me they haven't been issuing vacation credits for over a year.

They are so greedy. They charge a fortune for online access to if you are not a customer.

I haven't used vacation hold in a long time but you should get some sort of credit for not getting print and just online access.
I do find they are getting very expensive and not too accommodating to old customers (most businesses are the same way). I think we might switch to weekend service only.

I didn't know this either. They are bad about communicating changes to their customers....we have an automatic pay through our CC and the last charge it went up like $20. So I called and they said that the price goes up every year. I told them I wanted to cancel if that was the case and they kept trying to get me to stay by lowering the price a little bit. I told them I would only stay if they charged me the price I was paying now and after "talking with the manager" they let me keep my current rate. I don't think they can afford to lose subscribers.

I hate Newsday anyway because their reporting is so biased, and when they try to get me to subscribe, I tell them as much!

I'm not a fan of newsday in general, I do see that they have some of a point on the online subscription. you'd think they might do some credit, however, in my opinion the 5 days isn't a big deal honestly, and there is an administrative cost/time in managing vacation holds.
if I had my druthers, I'd be a NYTimes weekender subscriber..... except for the fact that I don't seem to ever have time on the weekend to read it. So in my subscribing to Optonline I read the newsday app at times to get the "news"

I used to love Newsday. I can't stand it now. We canceled a long time ago. It's too bad they're the only show in town for local news.

My understanding is that if you call the hold in, you will get a credit. If you place the hold online, no credit.

And I also like to remind them that when my brother, a police officer, was struck in the line of duty by a drunken driver and they chose to put his story on their cover seven times, their reporters and photographers could have been a lot more "gentle" and sensitive --- and by that I mean, it would have been awesome if they didn't CHASE me to my car day after day after day taking pictures, shouting questions like "we heard he WAS a great guy, tell us about him!!!!!" when he was ALIVE...
And yeah, it would have been nice if they didn't RUN MY LICENSE PLATE and come to my home and stake out my residence chasing me to my car shouting questions and snapping pictures in my face when I was just trying to go to the grocery store.  If they would have just been a little less aggressive I would have come around and given them an interview ONCE I was able to collect myself and think straight -- and not be so emotional because at first we didn't know if he was going to live. 
I swear, I'll live 100 years and never get over that.

also, i dont have access to online and i pay for sunday paper... not sure if i am supposed to?

I only get Sunday delivery and have online access (but maybe that's because I switched from daily delivery to Sun only and they never figured it out?  )
