Giving birth at Good Samaritan

Anyone recently gave birth at Good Sam? Did you like your stay there? Did you choose a private or a semi-private room? Thanks!

Re: Giving birth at Good Samaritan

I just did two weeks ago. I didn't choose a private room. I figured for the cost, around $225/day, I'd rather spend it on the kids.

I had a vaginal delivery, so I was only there a couple of days. It was fine. The shared rooms are tight for two people. The bathroom is also small.

No complaints with the nurses/staff. My own personal issue was that I shared the room with someone who had a c-section and she was in rough shape, so she received a lot more attention. She was very sweet though.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Re: Giving birth at Good Samaritan

I delivered my son there in June.

Labor and delivery was great. The staff were very nice and supportive.

As for the stay itself, I stayed in the new mother child unit. It's really nice. The rooms are like hotel rooms. It's very quiet and serene. The rooms are very comfortable, large and clean. The bathroom was very nice. Well worth the $225/night if you can swing it.

I had heard that the nurses were mean and unsupportive but I had the absolute opposite experience. They were all great with me and my son. My nurses respected my wishes with regard to feeding my son and sending him to the nursery at night. I had heard that they were refusing to take babies to the 5th floor at night. I just told them I needed to rest and they gave me no problem about it. The aides were really nice and helpful as well.

I have nothing but positive things to say about my stay there, which, for me, is huge because I love to complain.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I wanted to have a private room but we were told during the hospital tour that our baby will stay with us the entire time. It's only going to be DH who will be with me at the hospital. If he needs to leave (run errands), he is worried that I might be too tired/exhausted to take care of our baby especially during at night.

Thanks for your reply. Was DH allowed to stay with you when you were in the labor and delivery room the entire time? I hope they won't ask him to leave if I have to be at the L & D room overnight.

I gave birth at Good Sam 2 months ago and the staff and nurses were all great. I was in labor for 24 hours and they did let DH stay in L&D overnight with me. He had to sleep on a pull out chair but he said it was decently comfortable considering the circumstances. I didn't have a private room but I wound up not having a roommate. Since I didn't have a roommate they said he could stay with me but he would have to sleep in a chair which was much less comfortable then the one in L&D so I told him to just go home and sleep.

I think they tell people that to deter them from sending the baby to the nursery at night because the big push is for BFing but it is 100% not true. You absolutely can send the baby up. I did it for two nights without issue.

DH was with me in Labor and Delivery. The first time was overnight. He 'slept 'in a pull out chair. Not the most comfortable but that was all there was. The second time I gave birth at 2:15a. I didn't get to my room until about 4:15a. DH left to go home and get some sleep before coming back.

Oh, and I totally put both kids in the nursery. Not just at night. Chat Icon
