Cecil the Lion
Has anyone been following this story?
I don't understand why these Southern African countries are not doing more against trophy hunting. From bits and pieces I have read, I understand that Namibia and South Africa allow trophy hunting. A lot of the times the species are protected.
I love lions. This makes me so sad. I blame the hunter as much as I do the hunting organizations that allow these types of hunts to go on.

I'm not a hunter, my family are not hunters.
I don't have a problem with it when it's something of an overpopulation thing - like deer .......
but a LION? What kind of person wants to kill something so seemingly untouchable and beautiful? It's a LION .......I feel like it's one of those things, like seeing a unicorn  - you're just awestruck b/c maybe it's not actually real because it's so amazing.
(I KNOW unicorns aren't real.....before someone feels the need to tell me this)

i have been reading stories on it.
I am not sure if I believe the dentist and I wonder if he will be prosecuted.
I don't care for hunting and I don't like that this is a sport for but if its legal where he went and he didn't really know he was killing a protected lion I don't think he should be in trouble.

I can't really read too much about it because it's too upsetting. Really.
But Z100 played a clip of Jimmy Kimmel from last night talking about it and he was great.
He's SOOO upset by this- he even choked up a little bit at the end while talking.
Let me see if I can find it.

It is heart breaking. And I have heard the hunter used the lions GPS tracker (the lion was tagged for scientific research) in order to find and kill him. Just disgusting.

This is disgusting. I don't hunt, but my family in other parts of the country do, and they do so for food. And they hunt things like deer and quail in a very legal and ethical (as ethical as you can be) way. And I'm all for that - in fact it's much more humane than the way much of the meat from my local supermarket dies.
But there should be no such thing as hunting for "sport". That's not a sport. It's the murdering of innocent animals and it SHOULD be a crime - especially with so many of these animals becoming endangered or threatened. There is something seriously wrong with someone who gets off on this kind of thing.
ETA - I hope he is prosecuted harshly and made an example of. How anyone can do that to an animal and just leave it's carcass to rot makes me sick.

I am horribly disgusted by it. To me sport hunting is atrocious and not a sport. I absolutely understand defending oneself in dangerous situations, I.e. Wild boar chasing you, or a bear. My friend had a huge black bear wander into her yard last week. I am also fine with hunting for food. But to callously kill a wild animal for no other reason than you want to shoot something, is horrible to me and it makes you a thug.

In the clip of Kimmel above, he says something like ,"how hard is it for you to get an erection that you have to go out and kill a lion? They make a blue pill for that.

This story is so incredibly upsetting to me. I'm glad that douche bag's dental practice closed down as a result of the backlash he's receiving for the horrific act he committed. I hope that the Zimbabwean government holds him responsible for his actions. I'm hoping for karma to rear her head......

I hate every single thing about this story. Hunting for "fun" is one of the grossest thing I can think of that we do as humans. I'm a meat eater, I'm by no means an activist...but to kill something for no other reason than to pat yourself on the back? Disgusting!!!
