Migraines sufferers question

If you need prescription pills to get rid of migraines what do you do while pregnant? My sister has bad migraines and she was told not to take her script meds. What has worked for you? Is there anything you can take?

Migraines sufferers question

I had nerve blocks performed by my headache specialist. I also took 1000mg of magnesium daily. I was prescribed a lidocaine-prilocaone cream to apply to my head during intense headaches. During a really bad episode I was sent to the hospital for IV magnesium.

Did your ob prescribe the cream? Did it work? Magnesium is safe to take? Sorry I know nothing about this. My sis just suffered for 3 days with a bad one, so I'm trying to help her.

My headache specialist and my maternal fetal medicine specialist worked together to come up with a treatment plan. The cream helped a lot. Magnesium is safe to take- I took it my entire pregnancy. Your sister should see a headache specialist. Most ob's have limited experience
Working with migraine patients. The nerve blocks provided the most relief especially when I had a headache for a few days in a row. I found my headaches were more frequent if I did not drink enough water or if I did not sleep enough.

I truly believe magnesium is a miracle in the prevention of migraines. I cannot tell you how much the frequency of my migraines have decreased since taking it regularly. Definitely have her look into it

Nothing that worked. Tylenol, coke, ice pack, and sleep.

Pregnancy also decreased my migraines. Tylenol and caffeine helped if I did have one. Most of headaches during pregnancy seemed to be to due dehydration or low blood sugar.

Honestly, I was so afraid to take any medication while I was pregnant so I saw my chiropractor. My ob/gyn actually recommended it too. She just so happens to be specialized in seeing pregnant patients so it worked out great. She did some stretches and very gentle adjustments. She also gave me some advice on foods avoid or add to my diet and that helped too. Hope that helps. Good luck

Re: Migraines sufferers question

I had horrible migraines with my first and now again with my second. When it's really bad I take extra strength Tylenol with either a cup of coffee or tea to boost the caffeine (as per my Dr's advice). I also do ice packs, dark rooms and sleep when I can! I have been using essential oils which have been helping a lot too, I use eucalyptus, peppermint and lavender, applied both topically and in a diffuser at bed time.
