Taxes "being reviewed"??
We filed our taxes in mid feb and just got a letter from the NYS auditing department that our return has to be revised and that we have to submit documentation.
This has never happened to us before! What does this mean and what can we expect to happen? Will we be "reviewed" regarding our federal return as well??

I've seen a ton of clients get these letters lately. In my opinion, there's no need. You submit the documentation they ask for within the time frame they state in the letter. They check it out and go about their day. Most of my clients get asked for documentation for their itemized deductions (mortgage interest, real estate taxes and medical expenses have been the most common). I wouldn't worry. Submit the info asap.
You won't get a similar type letter from the IRS. They don't do that.

A few months ago I received a letter from the IRS, asking for documentation about mortgage interest.
My accountant took care of it and we received a letter saying everything was accepted and is OK.

We got the same thing, my accountant said he's seen them a LOT this year. Our federal was already processed and we've received the refund. Accountant basically said it's no big deal, they just want the additional info and there usually isn't a problem from there.

Same for us. Accountant blamed it on the fact the NYS is trying to hold off on paying refunds. We have a large refund this year because we did solar so we have a tax credit
