Saw it tonight. It was very much true to the book. Book 1.
I liked it. Some pretty intense sex scenes. Especially in the red room Chat Icon

Fifty Shades Anyone? (Possible Spoilers):

How were Dakota and Jamie on screen? I just don't see it but I'll watch the movie when it's released on VOD or I get a bootleg.

I liked her more than him. But they were good. I thought they did well together. At times the acting was bad. But for the most part I enjoyed it.

Just read this article. As much as I enjoyed the books and the movie was good. This is an excellent read and has very valid points.

Fifty Shades Anyone? (Possible Spoilers):

Bumping this because I saw this last night:

I thought this movie was just awful!

Jamie Dornan IS NOT Christian Grey. Sorry. Plus, his Irish brogue kept bursting through at the most random times! He just did not turn me on.

Also, this movie should just be called "50 Shades Of Dakotas Nipples & Merkin" not one full frontal on Jamie. Total bulllshit! Chat Icon

I actually thought the movie was okay, it was better than I anticipated it to be. I feel like if you liked the book, you will think the movie was at least okay. They pretty much followed the book exactly and didn't really deviate which I like, I HATE when they change details from the original story.

That being said, he is NOT my Christian Grey. He's "cute" but not stunning and his body, IMO, wasn't great. I HATED the casting for Anastasia but after seeing the movie, I think she did a pretty decent job of portraying her. I was surprised because I was ready to 100% dislike her in the movie.

All and all, it was okay. Not terrible, not great but watchable. I still ALWAYS prefer books to a movie though because so many details have to be glossed over or cut out for the sake of time.

Re: Fifty Shades Anyone? (Possible Spoilers):

I saw it on Monday -- and yes, my boyfriend happily attended with me and was only one of three men in the packed theater and we later surmised, probably the only straight man Chat Icon

Anywho, he loved it Chat Icon Chat Icon

Kidding - but he was kind of like, hey it's a little like porn you watch at home but I'm in a theater next to people I do not know - this is bizarre!

The funny thing was this was our "Valentine's Day" so we went to a really nice dinner beforehand and we order a bottle of wine and it's all romantic and nice -- and we keep saying to each other about the movie - oh it's at 8pm, we have time, oh we won't be late. Oh good we were able to reserve seats so we don't have to worry! Things like that -- so we eat, everything was great. We go to leave, get our coats on and the couples on either side of us in the restaurant -- and they are older, like my parents-age, go "enjoy the movies! we heard you say you were going! what are you going to see??"

Both me and my boyfriend look at each other and immediately blurt out AMERICAN SNIPER.

HAHAHAHAA Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

OK, so anyway - about the movie... I felt like the people who played Ana and Christian grew on me a lot -- HE grew on me A LOT. Like, I find him very attractive and his face and facial expressions have that dark and I'm a little fuucked up in a few ways look to them. She grew on me a lot more than I thought - I thought she nailed the whole awkward but sexy but interesting look. I think the whole idea is that her character was supposed to have this kind of unique look to her - not like every other chick - and she def has that. It's interesting. I bought it, I definitely did.

As for the other people - I think his mother is cast perfectly. I think the part of her best friend is cast perfectly. I liked the filming and direction - I thought the set was cool.

Now, as far as the story. I'm happy they stuck to the book don't get me wrong - but, I felt like it was RUSHED or something. Am I the only one who felt like everything was happening so quickly and then BAM end of movie??

Like, at the very end, when she got in the elevator I SOOOOOO did not think that was where they were ending it -- I get the ploy is to make sequels and shit but I mean, it was just so abrupt!! We looked at each other like, is that it?? And my BF was like wait, is it over?? LOL!

Am I the only one??

He and I talked about it and felt like if this were a mini-series on TV or on HBO or something it would be better, because you'd have to wait a week or two for the next chapter and it would keep your interest piqued ya know? Like, what happens now? We wait TWO YEARS for the next one?? Aghhhh that's just dumb. That irked me. It still does.

It did feel a little rushed but I always feel that way when I see a movie based on a book. Too many details are taken out.

As for the ending, it was at least true to form. The book itself ended abruptly too. She got offended, walked out, and there was maybe 2-3 more pages where the author just "showed" her sad and unhappy but basically the movie and book ended the same. Quick and dirty. Chat Icon

It's annoying that you'll have to wait sooooooo long for the next one. I wish they filmed movies like this all at once and then released them every 6 months so we can see them fast. Chat Icon

This is very true -- I didn't think of that. I read the books so long ago.

Interesting - I guess then, because of the way it was due to end so quick, they should have expanded on the scenes that led up to that. Key scenes like them meeting and discussing the rules to her meeting his family -- those should have been expanded a little. I mean, so it ends up being a three hour movie. People wouldn't mind, trust me, I never care how long movies are!

ITA!! I feel like the family interactions were kind of out of place. There was no lead in to them and then there was also nothing much to them. I felt like they didn't add anything to the movie. Seeing the movie made me want to go back and read the book again!!!............just to check details!! Chat Icon

I thought it was awful. I laughed through the entire thing and it clearly was not meant to be a comedy. I didn't find him attractive and it was hard to see him the way Ana sees him. Not what I pictured. I couldn't stop wondering if one of his eyes were fake and when he braided her hair, I wondered if he was going to do a fishtail one he found on pinterest. Just not into it at all.

I wasn't a fan of the books. But my friend asked me to go with her so I did.

I have to say I liked it Chat Icon I thought they did a good job with the material. They pared down a lot of the cheesy dialogue from the books. I also agree about the family interactions being pointless in the movie.

I thought Jamie was hot as hell. I thought he played Christian perfectly. Dakota was good too.

It just made me laugh at how close this is to Twilight. I swear for the first 45 min I thought I was actually watching Twilight Chat Icon. I know it's based off the fanfic, but wow, the character parallels are insane.

I saw it. I was thought it was ok...better than I expected actually.

Jamie Dornan is NOT Christian to me. He is not domineering enough and his body wasn't ripped enough. And I kept noticing his accent peeking through.

I liked Dakota Johnson more than I expected to. Couldn't imagine having to act some of those scenes out!

Luke Grimes as Elliot was all sorts of wrong. He just didn't fit the book's description at all.

Christian's mom isn't as I pictured her either, nor was Mia...Rita Ora, really?!

Kate was ok.

I liked how it was true to the books but I agree with PP that it did seem to move very quickly.

Anyone else think it should've been NC-17 instead of R??

I had no plans to see it but a friend was down in the dumps so I went with.

The actors were serviceable. I just was completely horrified by the abusive nature of their relationship. Christian was a scary, controlling stalker. Chat Icon

I never pictured Elliot to look the way he does in the movie or Mia for that matter. I thought she was going to be a bubbly while girl. Did I miss a description in the books?

And yes, NC-17 is definitely more appropriate.

Yes! I think Twilight got better with each movie, so maybe this will too! They ended Twilig pretty abruptly a few times, so I wasn't totally shocked with the ending.

Fifty Shades Anyone? (Possible Spoilers):

Saw it tonight and it was def better than I had anticipated. In interviews it seemed as if Dakota and Jamie had no chemistry at all. But on screen it was totally different. Some of the dialogue was just so cheesey when it translated to screen, but save for that, it certainly wasn't so bad.

Dd anyone stay for and see the after credits scene? I read about it and stayed until the end, but my theater didn't show it!!! It was a teaser to set up 50 Shades Freed

I was so dissapointed with it. Felt rushed, so many details were missing. Dakota did phenomenal as Anastasia. Jaime did great as Christian minus here n there when you'd hear his Irish accent.
Def needs a new director and writer for the next movie.
