Epstein Barr
Anybody have experience with this? ANY insight would be greatly appreciated. I'm specifically wondering how debilitating it can be? Also any Dr. recs? Thank you in advance.

hmm - well, i had fifth's disease (the fifth in the grouping - chickenpox, mumps, measles, something else, and the fifth one - fifth's disease!)
i had this in like tenth grade and my doc told me and my mom and that it was similar to mono or epstein barr. he said it will cause EXTREME exhaustion and boy did it!
i was out of commission, stick a fork in me, for about 2 weeks - maybe a little more. could not get out of bed, needed help to walk to the bathroom to pee. my mom had to help me sit up to take my medicine. it was debilitating.
but it went away - just following doc's orders, taking whatever meds he put me on and i was ok.
not sure if the outcome and ending of EB and mono is the same as fifth's but the exhaustion is according to good ol' Dr. Franco (since retired)
do you have this? I'm so sorry!

I have Epstein Barr. Any specific questions you have? I found out I had it in middle school, it's exhausting when its rampant but when its dormant you go back to normalcy. I tend to see it come out more in the late fall into winter, It's hard for me to get out of bed. I do have 3 small kids, so I wouldn't call it debilitating, but I can't do as much as say when it goes dormant.

Epstein Barr
I have 2 friends with it. One was my college roommate. She actually had to withdraw from classes one semester because it was so bad.

Yes, it's something that stays with you. Much like vertigo because I have that as well lol. Vertigo is a lot worse though, so I'm sorry you have that!
I want to say it's something in the blood, but can't be for sure as I haven't seen a doctor about it in years, since there is essentially nothing you can do about it.
I do feel that eating better and exercise helps keep it stay dormant, or at least that has worked for me.
Eta- I shouldn't say vertigo is worse, because everyone is different. I've had Epstein Barr for 10+ years so I've learned how to deal with it. Vertigo is new for me and something I'm still learning to deal with.
Also, I feel like most people think I'm being lazy or just making excuses when I'm having an "episode" because I do need more sleep, and I'm very cranky when tired, so most people don't understand.

I think I was diagnosed with this at 16 or 17... it was around the time I got mono, and they tested for it. From what I remember most people only get mono once, but the virus stays dormant in your system. And that many people have it but I guess don't know about it. I think it can cause you to be tired... which i definitely am but I don't know if its because of EBV or just because I'm pregnant and chasing after my toddler! lol.

Oh, thank you. I'm actually doing so well with it because I go to an acupuncturist once a month or so now for maintenance - originally, I went once a week, then every other week, and then once monthly once I was good.
And yeah that controls the vertigo and I have not had a re-occurrence since I started seeing my acupuncturist

My mother first got it years ago, and she was bedridden for a couple of weeks. They really didn't know what she had, and by the time she was diagnosed, it had gotten a little better. I want to say it was over 20 years ago that she first got sick and she still gets episodes. She'll get very, very, very tired & super thirsty. That's when we know it's back.

I had it in high school. Missed a month of school my senior year. Just taking a shower was exhausting, that I'd often go right back to sleep afterwards.
