vbac or csection

I am so nervous about both! What would you do... try for a vbac or just a scheduled csection. The only reason I was a section for the 1st time was because I was stuck at 7 cm and not progressing even with full pitosin. Would you risk it and vbac? Which risk is higher?? Any sugg. would be greatly appreciated.

I never got past 6cm, and had a section the first time. I have opted for another c-section. My main reason is I'm a diabetic and would most likely be induced anyway since they wouldn't let me go past me due date. I am 100% fine with my decision. What does your Dr think?

Re: vbac or csection

I also opted for a repeat. My reasons were more selfish than that. I dilated with Emma after 23 hours and she was in distress. I was 9.5CM. (What a waste of time that was) I was going natural, drug free. I know what labor is like, I know the stress it puts on my body and on the babies body. I decided that since I never wanted to go through that labor again and have another c-s I would have a repeat C. The recovery the 2nd time since I didn't go through labor was AMAZING compared to the 1st.

Re: vbac or csection

I have thought about Vbacing in the future many times-

Until recently- when I was speaking with a parent of one of the children who goes to the school I work for-

Mom and Dad are both Dr.'s- she had a section with her first baby- and when I asked about her current pregnancy- she said she was going for a repeat section, she wanted to take no risks...

To me- If a Dr felt it was safer for herself- her husband who is also a Dr thought it was safer and her OB (which Im sure they have some connection with) thought it was best- I think I may have to taker her word for it- and do a repeat section as well...

I had a wonderful experience- so I dont have any real reason in not wanting to do it again-

I guess my mind will change when the time comes- but only time will tell..

Re: vbac or csection

I intend to try for a vbac. In fact, at my first visit on Tuesday, my dr. said "If you tell me right now you want another c/s I will schedule you for 39 weeks." I said, I'd like to try for "natural." She said I was a good candidate...I never dilated past 3cm and DD hearbeat was rapidly decelerating...just bad luck.

The risk of uterine rupture exists no matter what and the risk only increases to something like 1.5% as compared with like .8% for vaginal birth in the first place. As I understand it, c/s is major surgery and therefore presents more risks for mom and baby if all else remains equal (in other words, no GD, no huge baby, no decelerating heartbeat, etc...).

Also, I spent 4 nights in the hospital with DD and can't fathom being away from her for that long!!!!!

Having said all that, my girlfriend has named us members of the "tight vagina club" since we both had c/s and I'm a little nervous to think about renouncing my membership in that! Chat Icon

Good luck with your decision and with mine since I'm far from finalizing it!
