16 Month DD addicted to Mickey Mouse
My DD will wake up and the first thing she does is point to the TV bc she wants to watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She isn't speaking yet but has lots of ways of telling us what she wants--she brings the remote control over to us or if I happen to have the news on she will whine and point bc she wants to watch Mickey. I should have started off by saying that I was one of those mothers that said my kids will never be addicted to tv, in fact she never watched tv till she turned 1. DH and I will even have the tv off as much as possible. I work and so does DH so we have my in-laws over to watch her during the day. They both know that she can watch 1 or 2 Mickey shows throughout the day but I don't want the tv on all day, but now that I have been on vacation I see how easy it is to just give in to the whining and put it on. She received a TON of great toys for Christmas and will play for a little bit but for the most part she is already bored with them. I've been taking her out during the day to break up our time at home but with the cold weather coming how do I get her engaged in other things where she isn't always asking for Mickey!? My in-laws are great, they play with her and read books with her but there is only so much you can do till she is whining again...
Has anyone gone through this? Sorry for this long vent.

Does she actually watch the whole show or at while its on? We have tv on a lot during the day and did at 16 mo but they watch for a few minutes then play. Then they will tune back in if there is a song on.

She will actually sit and watch the whole show and that's what bothers me bc if she played and every now and then glanced at the tv then I would be a little bit more ok with that.

16 Month DD addicted to Mickey Mouse
I wouldn't make yourself crazy. DD goes in phases where she wants to watch a lot or she couldn't care less about it. We were similar, she watched one sesame street a day at a year old and then around 16 months she was introduced to disney junior and was very quickly addicted. I will admit we gave in a lot when we were stuck home but after a while she stopped asking as much. It still goes in phases but I don't worry. She asks lots of questions and legitimately tries to understand what's happening in the shows. She has an amazing vocabulary and some of the words she learns I don't even know. I had to google that the thing a king carries is a scepter bc she was trying to say it while carrying around a wrapping paper roll and i didn't know the word. She's still learning and too smart for her own good (and mine) so I just let it be.

16 Month DD addicted to Mickey Mouse
I have no advice, but just wanted to say that my 16 month old niece is addicted to the same show. I think it's something to do with their age.

Can you distract her by singing some songs from the show or introducing some mickey mouse clubhouse toys and books?
If you give into the whining, she will know that whining gets her the reward of watching the show. If you want to break the habit, break it sooner rather than later.

16 Month DD addicted to Mickey Mouse
Don't worry too much my dd used to go through these phases as well. BUT I will agree with the pp, do not give into the whining because she will see when she whines she gets her way. and THAT will get worse. I would say allow her what you feel comfortable with but beyond that turn it off and interact with her, play with her, read, go out, go to places even when its cold like a mall to walk around or an in door play place or maybe sign up for like music together? can someone take her to 1 of those when they watch her? Or my little gym? Maybe just don't put the tv on at all until this phase passes.
I was like you o my dd wont watch tv but when there are times that you have to get stuff done, the tv goes on LOL My dd is good she watches it for a lil bit but then its just background noise for her, she plays in her playroom with her toys.

16 Month DD addicted to Mickey Mouse
My DD could watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or the Mickey Cartoons for ever! She actually plays while it is on so I am ok with it. It helped a lot in the 18 hour road trip we took.
Can you download the Hot Dog Song and the Clubhouse song to your phone? It could be a different background noise. I downloaded the Disney Junior album and DD will listen in the car or when she is playing so the tv isn't on.
I wouldn't worry to much though.

16 Month DD addicted to Mickey Mouse
I could have written this post word for word. Sometimes she will play Hot Dog on my phone while watching the show, that is how addicted she is lol. She does play and do other things while its on and sometimes I can turn it off and she will play with other toys. But I totally get what you are saying and your concern. Im hoping its a phase and I just try to limit it as much as i can

Re: 16 Month DD addicted to Mickey Mouse
DS is 23 months and is obsessed with Mickey, too. it used to be Peppa Pig, but now he's stuck on Mickey. As soon as he wakes up in the morning, he's already asking for Mickey. He does watch it a good amount throughout the day, but he also plays with toys, too. I'd just keep toys in front of the tv and gradually limit the amount of tv time.

DD isn't speaking yet (she totally understands everything we say and responds to everything in her own way)..Dr isn't concerned yet, but I think this is why it bothers me so much bc I don't want to delay her speech even more by her watching so much tv...I don't even know if that's what delays speech but from everything you read about too much tv being a bad thing...who knows

Thanks everyone, I will try not to give into the whining and I will get her a little toddler cd player where I can get her the songs bc that's her favorite part. I appreciate all of the help!

My kids say stuff that I don't even know where they learned it. I later find it its from TV! LOL. I'd just continue to limit like you do and not give in. I tell my kids things are broken when I don't want them having it. haha. My girls have a plush Minnie doll that sings the hot dog song. They love it! Definitely get her one of the Mickey play sets or Minnie mouse house and some books. Even the ones where you push the buttons and they play songs. My kids love those. My kids are obsessed more with Minnie than Mickey. They used to call the show "Minnie" at that age.

16 Month DD addicted to Mickey Mouse
It's prob a phase. Take her out of the house more to get her mind off the tv if you're worried. My DD is almost 4 and has been obsessed with peppa pig for the last few mos. She even talks in a British accent. I know it will pass and she will be onto something else soon, whether it's a toy or show. She's also so consumed with our dog. He's always been there's, she's just so glued to him lately, pretending he's sick and shes the doctor caring for him. Again, another phase, lol.
