I hosted one and had 3 people not order anything....

I didn't mind, but I didn't say ahead of time, no obligation... It would have been a little nice to know they weren't going to order anything as my coworker was the one selling it and she told me after how she thought it was rude.

I disagree with a vendor thinking it's rude. It's the vendor's job to SELL. The host's job to gather people. A good salesperson with a good product should be able to turn at least a few of those "not purchasing" people into sales. I'm not obligated to buy stuff at the mall just bc i walk around in it, and I'm sure the mall vendors are happy to have people walking around the mall. That's what their windows and sale offerings are for, to lure people in.

I personally wouldn't go if I had no intentions of buying anything.

Same here. However, I hosted an Origami Owl party and had several people not purchase anything.

I went to an origami one and didn't purchase. I went with an open mind, wallet in purse, and looked. The pieces were at least $50. I didn't like anything and didn't buy.

Same

same, i sell pampered chef and get annoyed when people don't buy anything Chat Icon

ETA, the catalogs aren't cheap either and most people that take them home to "look" never buy and its kind of a waste Chat Icon

Why do you get annoyed? I honestly don't understand. You are having a chance at a sale by showing what you're offering. Why do you think you should be guaranteed the sale?

first, I have trouble buying anything for myself, which is an issues all its own lol, and yes I do feel odd if I go and don't buy, and everyone else is. My budget does not allow me to spend $50 plus on things I will never use.
So yes I have gone more to be part of the group and not bought, sometimes if I look through the catalog before hand and can find something not to $$ I might go with that in mind.

I wish I could buy, because the purpose is to buy, the hostess gets something and so does the person selling, like income

If Im not already familiar with the products then I look into it before I respond. If I don't see anything I like then I won't go. No point in wasting my or the hosts time.

I sell Scentsy and plenty of people come to the parties and don't buy. I don't mind! The only time I do mind is when people lead me on into thinking they are going to buy and then bail. LOL

I usually don't go to these parties because I "feel" obligated. Honestly, they are usually such a bore anyway.

agreed. I hate these types of parties. I always feel obligated to buy something, I usually do and then it just becomes more clutter and something I didn't need.

Nope, even when I'm broke, I'm too weak and can't say No. I even buy when I'm sent an evite and can't make it. I think only once I didn't buy and that was Stella Dot Jewelry, which I don't like.

Re: Have you ever NOT bought something at a direct sales party?

I HATE THESE PARTIES!!!

Lol!

I go once in a while to show support for friends. And yes, I usually buy at least a little something to show support, but I honestly cringe when I get an invite to them. Of course you can go and not purchase but its such an awkward feeling. I did that ONCE..a neighbor was selling stella and dot and I was broke. She insisted I come by for wine and food...I had one drink, looked at the pieces (which in my opinion are too $$ for what it is) and took a catalog and left.

I can't understand why people would get annoyed if people don't buy. Most of these companies are selling way overpriced stuff. The one and only party I actually liked was 31 bags. I got 2 nice bags and they've held up well.

Don't go if you have no intention to buy. The person hosting is supplying snacks and drinks and their house and time. Of you know it's 100% don't bother wasting their time. I've had people complain to me about this situation before.

I always buy a little something, at the least. I just make sure it's something I can actually use/wear/etc.

I've only been invited to Origami Owl parties. One time I didn't buy anything (and I felt guilty, but I really couldn't decide what I wanted), the 2nd time I bought something.

Re: Have you ever NOT bought something at a direct sales party?

I have always bought something at these types of parties. I feel so guilty not buying anything, because I do feel it is expected that you buy. With that said, I now decline every single sales party im invited to. If i'm not there, I don't feel guilty of not buying anything :).

I had a friend, who was a sales consultant for like 3-4 companies . the things I heard her say about people who didn't buy, were disgusting. She was definitely one who expected you to buy something if you attended one of these parties.
