When did your LO sit up for atleast a few mins without falling over

My ds turned 7m yesterday. He can sit for a minute or so without falling but then he will just fall sideways or throw himself backward. Also, he hasnt gotten up in his knees yet to show the beginning stages of crawling. Am I just rushing things or should he be doing more at thus point?

Each kid is different and there is a wide range of timing for these things.

My DS sat up by 5 months

I have twins one of them was delayed because of a low tone trunk. Do you think your son is low tone?

Ummmm, I dont think so. Dr never mentioned anything, he can stand pretty well while holding on to something. He was born at 36w. Not sure if that would mean anything.

DD sat up before 5 months and never fell over. Surprisingly, she did end up delayed with most everything else due to low tone and other issues. Honestly, it sounds like your son is doing fine. Just be sure to put him on his belly tons and make him do the work to either sit himself up or get up on his knees, etc. I wouldn't encourage things like standing until he can get himself from his belly up onto his knees or sitting and then get himself up from there.

Sounds very normal. I would wait a few weeks. Sounds like he is close.

When did your LO sit up for atleast a few mins without falling over

DD was 7-8 mos old. I used to sit her in the laundry basket with a pillow behind her. It would keep her from falling over too much. She used to love playing in there.

When DD was 10 or 11 months, we STILL had to watch her when sitting up. She is 4 years old now and
everything is fine. She was just on the late side with all her gross motor skills.

Re: When did your LO sit up for atleast a few mins without falling over

I don't remember specifically when they started but by 6 months my DD was sitting independently all the time and DS around 5 months.

Every child is different though so I wouldn't worry too much if your LO isn't doing it yet.

ETA - My DD NEVER, and I mean NEVER, crawled. She took her first steps at 12 months and then was walking on her own at 15 months...........she actually tried crawling for the FIRST time the day after she was walking. She did it once and then never bothered again. She didn't have any interest.

My DS was crawling pretty early, maybe 6'ish months? I don't remember specifically but he was pretty quick to do anything physical.

Each kid is different, even my own kids varied greatly! My 3 month old has been sitting since 4 weeks old. My oldest daughter was 5 months when she could do it.

about 7.5-8 months my LO was at that point and within a few weeks was able to sit without wobbling or tipping for 10-20 minutes. it progresses quickly if they get practice. he doesn't get to a sitting position on his own yet or show any signs of crawling. he's lazy ;)

Re: When did your LO sit up for atleast a few mins without falling over

around 9 months I think ... he has done everything late though, he didn't turn over in either direction until almost 7 months, and didn't crawl until after 12 months.

Re: When did your LO sit up for atleast a few mins without falling over

6.5 and 7 mo. The ped said to talk to them if they weren't sitting by 7.5/8 mo. My DD who only sat at 7 mo crawled at 8 mo and walked at 11.5 so they all just do things on their own time.
