Toddler Bed Transition? Attached to Parent
For the past few nights (and naptime too), DC does not want to sleep in the crib. DC just turned 2. DC is extremely attached to DH, where she only wants him to put her to bed for the past month. If I try, she screams bloody murder for "da da".
Our normal routine is one of us lays in our bed with her while she drinks her milk. After shes finished I let her roll around for a few and then put her in the crib w/music and that's it. I can usually get this done within 10min..15 at max. When DH puts her to sleep, he waits til she falls asleep in our bed and then transfers her to the crib. I don't agree with that but hes been doing it for a year and no problems.
The past few nights she will not let him or myself put her in the crib and needless to say I end up sleeping on the couch because she ends up sleeping next to him in our bed. She is soo attached to him and its so bad. Shes been attached to him for months. Its so bad that now at nap time she doesn't want the crib either. She makes several attempts to climb out ...which she can. So therefore I really cant revisit CIO because she will just climb out of the crib ( watching her on video monitor). Obv this is causing major anxiety and stress amongst us all. I am on the couch again right now as I write this.
We need to figure out a new routine asap. I can be stern and just have her drink her milk in the living room right before her bedtime and then just put her straight in the crib/bed wide awake.... I can convert the crib to a toddler bed AND most def. put up a gate across her doorway. But I don't know if that PLUS her not being next to "da da" will be all too much for her to handle but it seems likes the only way to go right now. I'm at my witts end and have no idea how to handle this. DD just turned 2. I really wanted to hold off on the toddler bed but it looks like we may have switch now. Any help is extremely appreciated right now. Thank you!!

Oh boy, that's rough My DD has always given us a hard time about nap & bedtime too, it's awful. I'm all for keeping them in a crib as long as possible but if she's climbing out I guess you have to convert it Maybe you can talk up getting a big girl bed so she's looking forward to it & tell her that she can still lay down with "da da" for a little as long as she goes in her bed after 10 minutes (or after milk, or whatever rule you make.) I don't know if that's crazy but that's what I would try. When I got desperate, I called a sleep coach, they are a ton of money but the woman I used gives free first time consultations over the phone- I'm pretty sure she still does, she helped us tremendously. Here's her contact info Sleep Cadets - Rebecca Kamerra (917)862-7644
Good luck

If she's climbing out I would convert. You do not want her to end up hurting herself. I converted DS1 at 22 months b/c he climbed out. Not at all what I wanted, but it worked out okay.
Try to get her really excited about a "big girl" bed and tell her that now that she's two it's time to sleep in there. I would have her drink her milk either in the living room or her bedroom.
Good luck!
