BF anxiety
I really want to try to BF my twins But I am already having anxiety about it. With DS I had a hard time - I had some PPD, latch wasn't great, and my supply was low. The first few weeks - which I know are the hardest regardless I was miserable. If he didn't feed well - I was resentful and upset with myself - when he had a good feeding - I enjoyed it. I really do want to try with the twins and be successful - like I said just having anxiety about it.
Any advice or support from BTDT moms who may have had a bad BF experience with first but went on to have better experience would be great!
TIA!

BF anxiety
Work with a lactation consultant. I was unable to BF my DS and had struggled with BFing my DD. She is now 6 weeks and I'm still BFing! (I was ready to give up after a week).

Re: BF anxiety
Find a LC who has experience with twins and set small goals. First commit to a week, then 2 weeks, then 6, and so on. Good luck!

Re: BF anxiety
I agree about finding an LC or reading a book on BFing. Also, join a bf moms group on FB to get help/advice from other moms currently BFing twins. Good luck! You can do it!

Re: BF anxiety
Thanks for replies- it's helpful. I was wondering if I should try on own first and then if needed call LC or right away work with someone- I guess I can see how it goes and have my list of consultants ready to call.
Anyone recommend a certain BF support group FB page? I just looked it up and there's a bunch.

The KellyMom Support Group has educated admins and LCs who are members.

Breastfeeding Mom Support is another good one. It's a closed group so only group members can see what you post and it doesn't show up on your friends newsfeeds. They also have an LC as one of the admins.

I would suggest getting in touch with your LLL before you have the babies. They may be able to steer you towards a LC or local mom that can help. In my experience, the nurses in the hospital are not always helpful. (It's really a matter of luck if you get a good one.) The logistics of BFing twins will be different. If you had trouble with BFing previously, you want someone who will patiently take you through the steps and help you work through any problems. (And one baby may get BFing right away, while the other one may need some assistance.)
I second the Kelly Mom FB group. I used to go on their message boards for my DS (before they were on FB) and they are very helpful. They also have a lot of useful information on their website.
Here's a
link to some articles Kellymom has on their website.

Also try it remember it doesn't have to be all or nothing. If you have to give a bottle or 2 of formula a day, that's fine. Even a little BM per day will give them the benefits.

I would think you would want to at least get referrals for good lactation consultants beforehand.
I will say don't give up if it is something you want to do. DS is 10 weeks and there were so many times that I wanted to give up, but am happy I did not.

Re: BF anxiety
I had a very hard time breast feeding my first daughter. I stuck with it and successfully breastfed her until she was 7 months old. The first month was extremely difficult. She wanted to nurse what seemed like constantly and I always felt like I was not making enough milk for her.
With my younger daughter who is 2.5 weeks old, it has been a completely different experience. I have more than enough milk. so much that I have been able to build up a frozen supply and I am able to give some pumped milk to my 19 month daughter everyday as well.
So the second time has definitely been easier. I delivered at Stony Brook and the lactation consultant was wonderful. They also have breast feeding support group there to help moms out. I think most hospitals offer this.

Re: BF anxiety
Once they are born (or before hand if you are relaxed enough while you're waiting for them to be born), ask to speak to the LC at the hospital. IMO it's good to have her there to help you from the start. She will help you with tandem breastfeeding. If you are still anxious when you leave ask the LC to recommend someone who might be able to help you. I left with a list. Not sure where you live but if you're in Nassau county Dr. Lauren Macaluso specializes in breastfeeding medicine.
