7 months old, and feeding problems

We started foods with DS around 6 months. He had been drinking 5oz pretty much every 3 hours around the clock prior to starting food. Now that we're giving him food, he doesn't take many bottles during the day anymore. I thought the food was supposed to be in addition to the formula, not instead of it. If I give him a meal of some oatmeal and 1/2 jar of fruit, we won't take any of the bottle. Now ped wants me giving him 3 meals a day. And he is also spitting up much more than he ever did before. The only time he will finish a full bottle is during the night, when he is not taking any food (and he does still wake twice during the night for a bottle)! It seems like if I try to push him to take more, he just spits it up. Not to mention, since we started meats last week, he is SO constipated that he just cries every time he has to go.

Anybody else experience any of this? What do I do?

this is EXACTLY what happened to us. i cried SO MUCH trying to give DS bottles around that age. i brought him to our ped and she said "if he likes food, give him food" so we went to 3 meals a day and added protein. she told me as long as he had at least 16oz of formula a day he would be fine. that totally stressed me out because previously he was taking like 30oz a day. i tried to just follow his lead and give bottles when i could tell he was hungry for one and i did the 3 meals. he's 11 months now and eats like a maniac and is back to loving his bottles again too. hang in there...i think because the food is new, it's just more interesting to them.

ETA: we tried to give a good variety of fruits/veggies so he gets his vitamins. also if the meat is making your DS constipated, try mixing it with fruit or do things like beans for protein instead of meat.

Yes both Dd's dropped dramatically their intake of formula.

We dropped down to 3 bottles quickly probably by 7 months.

I wouldn't worry about the bottles if he's taking in food. I would just spread them out more.

So dd would get a morning bottle at
6:30/7 wake up
8/8:30 breakfast
11ish bottle
1:00 bottle
5:30/6 dinner
Bedtime bottle

They never took more then 7 oz in a bottle

They both just loved food.

I just alway put the bottles in between meals. But it's normal to slow a bit on formula. They say the food it just for practice but there is nutritional value in fruits and veggies and the meats so its not like they are eating empty calories.

Thanks. It's been 8 years since I had a "regular" kid, so I forget everything! I'll relax about it all now.

ETA: by "regular", I mean DD#2 had so many feeding problems, I can't go by anything I did with her.
