blood blister on nipple
So I've been EBF for over 4 months and just developed a blood blister (not a milk bleb, definitely a blood blister). I've read it's from friction. Her latch seems fine. I haven't had any pain since the very early days. I did pump more than usual last week, so I'm not sure if that did anything.
Does anyone know how to treat it? Kelly mom just links to a page about treating open wounds, but it's not open. I put in a call into my OB already but wondering if anyone has firsthand experience with this.

I had both blood and milk bilsters. They were more painful than labor. I only have one side that works so I did not have much of a choice anyway. My lc said you just have to nurse through it and your babies sucking will open it. I was lucky it opened within 24 hrs. You have to watch for infection then you need a topical cream. Since I stopped pumping I no longer have issues. Sometimes I pump out by hand. Good luck! I shed a lot of tears with them.

These are horrible - I am so sorry. I exclusively pumped and had this issue a couple of times. I just pumped through it and it was no fun. The good news is - I think at least for me it works like a burnt tongue - heals pretty quickly.

AWFUL. I'm sorry. Baby sucking hurt like hell but it also opened it and then the pain was gone instantly.

Thanks, all. It's definitely sore when she nurses but not terrible. I was badly cracked the first few weeks and I think that was worse. Maybe I'm totally desentized from that experience, lol. But still, I do hope it goes away soon.
To first poster, what kind of topical ointment?

If it is infected the dr will prescribe an antibiotc ointment.
Have you tried mother love nipple cream? It saved my nipple. I wish I had known about it from day 1.

Thanks! I"ve heard but never tried. I haven't used anything in months since I healed up. Maybe I'll try for this when it opens. It looks smaller today but hasn't opened.
