Post partum depression

How soon would someone diagnose ppd? I just had my second on fri and all I do is cry all day and night. I do have things to cry over but I'm not usually this weepy. I remember some of this with my first but it wasn't this bad. I didn't expect to go into labor so early and still so much to do. I'm just really overwhelmed.

I was told ppd doesn't really get diagnosed until a few months out. Right now I would say it's the baby blues and the hormones.

I hope it gets better for you soon.

Re: Post partum depression

I agree. I would say it's just hormones. When I had both of my kids, I cried daily for at least two months (if not more). I know it was hormones and exhaustion combined. Everything seems so overwhelming. Accept help with things from anyone who is offering. Sleep whenever you can. And know that things will settle over time. Things will suddenly seem easier. Hang in there...the beginning is always the hardest.

I would think it is baby blues and not ppd. From what I've read, ppd is usually not diagnosed until a month after. I looked up some info on it since for the first week or so, I was crying over everything.

Re: Post partum depression

I was concerned early on that I had PPD also because I could not stop crying. we had to tell friends not to come visit because I couldn't hold myself together at all. I cried at my 6 week check up appt and explained to my dr that I was still highly emotional and she wasn't too concerned. give yourself time... I really thought is never be able to stop crying, but as time passed I felt better and better. Chat Icon

I feel like I just "knew" at some point that it was more then baby blues. I actually felt great the first 3 weeks, then started getting bad. Just keep a eye on yourself, there is no harm in meeting with someone to get a professional opinion. I didn't until I was like 6 weeks and I wish I had done it sooner
