Losing my hair

I'm 11 weeks pp and I'm losing hair by the handful. I'm talking a lot of hair each time I shower and wash my hair.

I have long very thick hair so I don't think I will miss it too much, but it's still alarming to see.

Is this normal?

Yep, normal. And it can last for a few months. Your hair did not fall out at the same rate while you were PG so once your pregnancy hormones start to leave your body, the hair that had not been shed then, will come out now.

Sooo normal yet alarming when it starts. Happened to be about 7months pp in the shower and it came out in handfuls. After a week it calmed down a lot, I now have some whispies from the hairs growing back.

Chat Icon my poor hair... I'm experiencing this too, since about 3.5 months pp and almost 2 months later, it's still coming out! I hate seeing my hair covering everything, on the floor, pillows, bathroom sink... here's hoping it slows down soon.

Yes, this. Pregnancy hormones cause you to hold on to more hair- your shedding cycle slows down. That is why many women notice they have thicker, fuller hair while pregnant (it's not the prenatals, it's the slowing down of the shed cycle)
Once your hormones start to regulate after giving birth, you shed that hair you held on to.
You aren't losing hair, you are just getting rid of what you normally would have shed at a slower pace.

Re: Losing my hair

My DS is almost 6 months old, and my hair still comes out in clumps! I started taking Biotin to try to help, but my goodness...I'm going to be bald soon!!

Re: Losing my hair

Yes. I'm almost 8 m PP and it's still falling out everywhere. My DDs are always handing me strands of my hair that they find stuck to them or the floor (or the couch or the bed...etc) I shed worse than the dog Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't know when it's supposed to stop. It has seemed almost constant for me since I had DD1 (but I was pregnant again when she was 12m and then pregnant again when DD2 was 12m)

Hopefully it stops when I (hopefully) don't get pregnant again this time around.

Losing my hair

Yep lasted till about 5-6 months. I now have some shorter pieces which I never contributed to the hair loss till pp said it.
