Taking binky away from older DC when you have a younger DC

I am planning on taking the binky away DS1 on Monday. He will be 3 in July and is a total binky addict and I just feel like it is time. We have been talking about the binky fairy for a couple of weeks and I ordered some books about the binky fairy that should be here today. However, my DS2 uses one mostly just for sleeping but will use it if he finds it lying around. My plan is to only let DS2 have the binky in his crib. So that if he wakes up it will just stay in the crib so DS1 won't see it. I was just wondering if anyone had any BTDT advice. Thanks!

My boys were 14 months apart so we had this issue. They had different color pacis from the beginning. DS #1 was over 3 and it was time for it to go as he was getting more attached and whiney because of it. His got sticky and had to be thrown out. He never took his younger brothers paci. He understood he was to big for it.

we actually just went through this around Christmas. DS was 3.5 and DD was 11 months.

We prepped him for quite some time "bops are for babies" and we were going to leave it for Santa and Santa was going to leave gifts in exchange. We told him that Santa would give his bops to "babies that needed them!"

We were petrified of how this whole thing would go down since DS was a total addict.

Along came Christmas Eve and he initiated the whole thing! He left his bops on the plate along with cookies for Santa and never looked back! We were SHOCKED! He has asked maybe 2-3 times over the past 5 months but we ignore it or simply say "bops are for babies, that's why Gracie has one" and we move on.

It has actually helped that DD has one, helps to make him understand the "bops are for babies" part of giving up his pacifier.

We just went through it 2 weeks ago. There is 13 months between DS and DD. DS was an addict but usually when tired. DD really only uses it for naps also. DS had his 2 year check up and the doctor mentioned his teeth starting to arch (they are not but she just said to keep an eye on it). I put it straight in the garbage. DS looked for it a few times that evening but i just distracted him and he went to bed no problem without it. We just leave DD's in her crib. But even after 2 days if he found his own he would give it to DD. He has never looked back.
