When did you transition to a toddler bed

DD is 17 months and can climb out of her crib now. I was not expecting to change to a toddler bed just yet. What is a normal age to switch over?

At 2 but went straight to a twin.

It's really whatever works for you. With DD we did it at 3 since we needed the crib for DS. DS went straight to a twin at 20 months. We had gotten bunk beds for them and he did well. He had been napping on a cot though at daycare for quite sometime so was used to not being in a crib.

It's really personal preference. We waited until dd tried to jump out before we switched her. She was almost 3.

whenever you feel like its time.
we did it when DS was 2.5, and he climbed INTO the crib one night while DH and I were cleaning up from dinner. at least he fell onto the soft mattress... but we figured if he climbed IN, he would probably climb OUT, too. he is almost 3.5 now and still in the toddler bed, but we just bought him a twin bed that we'll set up probably this summer.

We skipped toddler beds and switched all 3 to a twin bed at early ages.
#1- 17 months
#2- 15 months

At 23 months we moved DS to a twin

1 - 18 mos toddler bed (she climbed out of crib)
- 2 yrs twin bed
2 - is 2 and still in the crib. But starting to climb, so will probably transition to toddler bed soon.

at like 14 months i set up the toddler bed but she never really slept on it...we then just bought her a full sized bed and left it on the floor...recently - she is just shy of 3 - we bought her a bed frame and she's sleeping in a "Big Girl" bed. DD would not sleep in the crib starting around 1 year old so it was easier to just get her a big bed where we could co sleep if necessary than to spend all night trying to get her back to sleep in her own crib

3.5 yo but she never tried to climb out of her bed. Converted the crib and she slept there until 4.5 when she switched to a twin. (The new baby needed the crib)

when she stared climbing out of her crib right around 2 ... we did toddler because her crib switched to a toddler bed and it was the quickest and easiest thing to do and I had no idea what I wanted in her room. A few months later we switched her to a full size bed.
