DS is 3.5 years old. Honestly, I found it WAY WAY easier to just got a step stool and an insert for the regular toilet. the little potties are cute and more their size... BUT its one more thing to clean!!! (especially with twins- you don't need that! LOL) the seat insert is great bc you don't have to empty a kiddie potty or wash it out or any of that. plus, it gets them used to the big potty right from the beginning.
I do have a kiddie potty that I keep in the back of my car on long car rides in case theres not a good place to run into for him to go.
ETA: I have this seat insert... SEAT

ITA! Potty training my twins with the potties were a nightmare and cleaning them was terrible. I bought 2 of them and they wound up potty training at different times. In the end they wound up using the regular toilet with something on the seat. Our potties came apart so the seat part fit on a regular toilet. They used it for like a week and then they now use the regular potty with no insert.

do you have b/g twins? what ages did they end up training?
i'm not really looking to train them right now, i just want to get them used to the idea of it. they're almost 17 months and they pat on their diaper when they poop.
this is definitely food for thought, thank you

I like this one for the big potties because it is clear and I can see when and how much my son is going because I often can't hear it above his chatter. It also doesn't slide around on the toilet seat and has a relatively high splash guard.

I also have these that I like because when I was naked potty training him, he could run over and sit down himself vs. my having to pick him up and run him to the bathroom. He also tends to poop better in the little potty, I think because he can press his feet against the floor. I like that is has a high splash guard and similar design to the Baby Bjorn one for much cheaper.

I was worried he would have trouble switching between the big and little potty, but he doesn't seem to care.

Yes i have b/g twins. They trained at 3 years 2 months (DD) and 3 years 4 months (DS). We introduced them to the potty at exactly 2 years old and although they were excited about it and would go pee and poop here and there, they had no real interest until after they tuned 3. And only because i got sick of 3 kids in diapers (i also have a 20 month old) and just put them in underwear. But cleaning out the potties after every use and bleaching them every night when you are exhausted... SO annoying.
