Wedding and baby is only 2weeks old?

We just had our baby boy last Saturday. I breastfeed but pump as well and give bottles. My husbands brothers wedding is next Saturday. It's an afternoon wedding so I'd be gone from 10 am to 6 pm and that includes driving time. So 8 hours in total. Is it rude to not go to the wedding? My mom says she feels the baby is too small and she's afraid of anything happening. She was honest with me about how nervous she is because he's just a tiny newborn. Would my BIL and future SIL understand? What would you do? My husband is the best man and I'm not in the bridal party so my husband said he's ok with whatever decision we make. He's confused on what the right thing to do is too.

Wedding and baby is only 2weeks old?

You should try to go at least for a little while - it's family.

If it's close I would go for 2 hours and then come home. I wouldn't go for the whole time. I know my Mom or MIL would be very nervous watching my kids for 8 hours that young.
If you decide to not go, I'm sure everyone will understand.

Re: Wedding and baby is only 2weeks old?

In my experience two week olds sleep most of the day, they don't even have gas or teething issues yet, is this true so far for your little one? If so I bet she'll be fine, but of nervous just go to the reception that'll save a few hours (and they probably already garanteed your plate- )and explain your mom feels too nervous since he is so young but then quickly start gushing how beautiful the bride, the hall, and everything else is!

You can def sneak out just before the cake

I would go for a few hours and maybe bring your mother/baby with you so she take the baby somewhere why you enjoy yourself for a bit, if it is ok with the bride of course...OR just drive out there for the ceremony only, or the cocktail only, etc..pick an "event" to be at for a few hours, I am sure everyone will understand.

There is no right or wrong here. You need to do what makes you comfortable.

Congratulations!

I agree. Do what you're comfortable with. Every family and baby is different.

I would not have been able to do it. Between my C-sections and establishing BFing, I would not have felt up to it. Also my DD had severe separation anxiety and would only sleep on my and would not even let DH hold her for about the first 4 wks. I used to run out for an hour to get fresh air and pick my son up from pre-school and she would scream the entire time.

I probably wouldn't have gone. My privates didn't feel wonderful at that point. I was breast feeding sometimes every two hours. I wouldn't have felt comfortable leaving her for that long yet. It's only two weeks since you delivered, I think everyone would understand or at least should.

Bottom line is do you even want to go?

I would go to the ceremony only and I would tell her ASAP. Two weeks out I doubt she gave her number of guests yet.

It sounds like your mom is supposed to watch the baby and she isn't comfortable. I wouldn't go.

Wedding and baby is only 2weeks old?

At 2 weeks I still felt like crap and had baby attached to the boob 24/7. I would not have felt up to get dressed up and certainly would not have felt comfortable leaving my baby with anyone. Sounds though too like your mom isn't comfortable watching the baby. Id have Dh go and send my regrets. They are family and should realize there was a very strong chance you wouldn't be going.

I wouldn't have been able to leave the baby for that long that early. Infants sleep a lot so I would bring the baby and my mom, see it they can hang out in the bridal suite or a back room during ceremony, and see if you can keep baby with you or in bridal suite during cocktail hour and reception. Then I would stay as long as I felt comfortable. I would duck out to nurse or spend tile with baby or rest as needed. I wouldn't skip it entirely and I wouldn't want to go the whole time and leave baby home either.

Islip to Roslyn is not far IMO and I'd go. Newborns sleep. And yes something could happen but in reality chances are it won't.

Re: Wedding and baby is only 2weeks old?

When DS was 4 weeks, I went to a wedding (Vermont), of a very close friend.
We got a hotel room for my parents.
DS slept during the ceremony (with us).
He then went to the hotel room, I fed him & went to the ceremony. I left the ceremony once to feed him (I was breastfeeding), but mom fed him another time.
There was a baby there who was 2 weeks who stayed through ceremony (sister of bride's baby).
I'm forever happy I went to the wedding!
I know that there may not be a hotel room available close to the venue, but even if you drive back & forth once, it is much shorter of a separation time.
Go in 2 cars if you can.

ITA. At 2 weeks my daughter was cluster feeding for hours at a time. There's no way. Unless you brought him and your mom watched him in the bridal suite or something.

Wedding and baby is only 2weeks old?

Is it at the Royalton?

If so there are a TON of rooms upstairs in that venue, your mom could come and sit with the baby in one if the rooms and you could pop in and out as often as you need. I doubt the bride would mind!

If not maybe you could ask to use the bridal suite for same purpose?

ITA. 2 weeks is still so soon, I don't think I would've been able to do it. Do what feels right to you, and don't feel guilty about whichever decision you make!

Wedding and baby is only 2weeks old?

I would just go to the ceremony and then head home. No need to attend the party but it would be nice to watch them get married and they may want to take a few family pictures at the ceremony.
