who's had a laproscopic ovarian cyctectomy? Update: wow i'm in pain
Getting scheduled to have this 7cm cyst out. Looking for others' experiences. Tia
UPDATE: surgery was yesterday. worst experience of my life. never felt so awful. ever. not just the pain, i ended up having a full blown panic attack in recovery. very scary. dh was there, tried to calm me down, nurse tried, finally gave me Toradol and i drifted off.
I have had panic attacks in the past, many years ago. This was out of left field. I felt myself totally lose control, as if i was watching myself in a movie. my hands went numb, i couldn't breathe, hysterical crying.
ok that stopped, i slept, then had to get up to go, the nausea starts. and more pain. my god. I felt like i got run over by a mack truck 50 times. mouth/throat a mess. I did have some of the aforementioned shoulder/neck pain but it went away fairly quickly.
I still haven't had a bm, god help me!!! but dh has been the absolute best, I'm blessed to have him. I know he was scared shit during the panic attack, but he held it together.

I've had a lap to have endo, including endometriomas (cysts on the ovaries) removed. I'm not sure if the experience is different for different types of cysts. Do you have specific questions?
One thing that I wished I had known ahead of time is that you may have bad shoulder pain afterwards. It has something to do with the way they inflate your abdomen to give them room to work.
They usually try to get you up and walking later the same day. Everything will be very tender and you'll have to move gingerly for a bit, but overall, I didn't think the recovery was too bad. I was warned not to bend, stoop or lift for 2 weeks afterwards to prevent adhesions.

I had one about 10 years ago for 13 cm cyst. Recovery wasn't too bad - I was just swollen and bloated for a few days. I didn't have the shoulder pain but I've heard it's common. The individual incision sites were pretty tender for awhile but nothing unbearable. Limited activity restrictions for a few weeks. Good luck!

Thank you. Not really specific questions, i guess just what to expect. Glad you mention this about the shoulder, imhave torn cartilage in one and will have to warn them to watch out.

Thanks for the reply. 13cm is pretty big. It wasn't emergency surgery was it?

There's nothing you can do about the shoulder thing. It affects some people, but not others. It's just alarming if you're not expecting it.

Yes I was not expecting that after my laproscopic gallbladder surgery.
That was worse than my incision. In fact, I only took the percs when I got home for that pain.
I also did hot compresses.
Felt like someone had karate chopped my shoulders.
It lasted almost a week!

OMG yes the I also had a lap about 18 years ago to diagnose endometriosis and I'm about to schedule another in a few weeks. (MrsM0829 I will have to fm you at a later time for some questions)
but the shoulder pain! Mylanta is what I was told from a family friend (1 day late) I remember when I woke up I was ok but by the time I got home the pain in my shoulder was excruciating and when I would lay down it would hit a nerve. It's gas but instead of a gas bubble in you stomach where you can pass it it floats up to your shoulder. It does pass but for some its pretty intense.

now i have anxiety about being intubated (breathing tube). And i don't want my $$$$$$$ veneers effed up.

I've been intubated twice and never had a problem with my dental work. I did feel a little hoarse afterwards, but that could have been as much from the dehydrating effect of the anesthesia as from being intubated.
Where are you having the surgery?
If you don't have one, you may want to pick up one of those grabbie things from Walmart: Grabber
I wish I'd had one of those after my surgery. I think just knowing that I wasn't supposed to bend made me more inclined to drop everything. Poor DH would get home and I'd have a list of things I'd dropped and couldn't pick up. LOL

LOL!! I just bought my mom one after she had bladder surgery! I'll have to borrow it lord have mercy.
It's going to be at Mt Sinai in the city.

LMAO!! oh boy dh is in for it for real.
Met with my md yesterday. she went over all the gory details. Let me tell you, despite being in the medical field myself, i found it um, disturbing. and that says a lot. i've seen everything, but i guess when it comes to your own innards being flipped upside down and inside out, well...

the anesthesia are always awful for me. That may have contributed to your panic attack.
Try & stay hydrated-that will help with the throat & the digestion.
(I didn't have this surgery, but I had a laproscopic total hysterectomy 2 years ago & a laproscopic partial nephrectomy 8 months ago.)

pain still sucks, i refused to keep taking oxy so i'm just trying to rest. i have a brand new respect for women who had c sections!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i can barely move and i only have 3 tiny holes, i can't imagine how women feel after being sliced from stem to stern!!!! the abdominals! oy

Is Oxy your only option? with my 1st surgery I also had an anti-inflammatory, which I felt helped more than the pain meds.
For the 2nd one, I was able to take Tylenol in between the Norco & then I switched to Tylenol only, but I do think I tried to go without the Norco too soon. I was terrified of dependence & withdrawal.
(Obv. check with the surgeon's nurse--don't just make stuff up.)
That surgery was more painful than the 1st, because it was a cyst removal, so the kidney had to heal back together where they took the cyst out. Taking all my parts out was easier!
and I hear ya on the C-sections-especially having to then care for a newborn & possibly older children.
