Hauppauge-South of LIE- yay or nay?
Many of you have seen my posts regarding a home in Hauppauge that DH and I were looking at. We are actually looking at another that is in a different area-south of the LIE-lovey home, dead end street, everything on our wish list.
I have concerns because it is south of LIE (still Hauppauge school district) but I recall some LIFers warning me about that area. Can anyone shed some light on why? TIA!

Hauppauge-South of LIE- yay or nay?
Perhaps because it is closer to CI? Just a guess...

Re: Hauppauge-South of LIE- yay or nay?
My former coworker lives in a beautiful neighborhood south of the LIE, off 111. Right near the kinkos/fedex store. Her house is gorgeous, she has 6 sons 5 of whom went to Notre Dame and on to fantasic careers . She's lived there for almost 30 years. Based on her experience in that area south of the LIE, I see no reason not to look there.

Thanks.. I don't really know enough about the area to know which parts are better-yet. This property is literally 2 blocks south of the LIE so who knows

My sister and her DH live south of the LIE, just off Rt. 111 and they have a great neighborhood. Lots of families, nice houses, etc. I don't see any reason not to look there. I'm sure there are some neighborhoods or blocks that are better than others, but that can be said of EVERY town.

And here we go......
Not all people look for the same thing in a neighborhood. You may love the area and that is fine, others, bc of the proximity to CI, may not.

Hauppauge-South of LIE- yay or nay?
Dh and I are from hauppauge and still live in hauppauge. He grew up in a nice home in a good neighborhood south of the lie. However, when looking for a home, we stayed away from looking in that area because of its proximity to ci. So is it a bad neighborhood? Absolutely not. But I'd say it's not the most preferable part of hauppauge to live in.

Is her husband by any chance a principal? There are not many families with 6 sons!!

Two blocks South is likely just fine. You have to go a little bit further than that for the area to start to turn. I would recommend staying north but if you love the house - that location is doable. That said, thnigs change over time and 'bad' neighborhoods usually encroach on good ones and not vice versa - so if you're thinking long term you may want to consider that pt.
