My son was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis type 1 at the age of only 6 weeks. NF 1 causes tumors to grown on nerve endings.. they can be deforming, interfere with development, and cause learning disabilities etc... There is a slight chance that they can turn to cancer... but a slightly higher chance when the tumors are plexiformas... (group of tumors around nerve endings that are hard to remove).. These are the ones my son has (2 of them) along his spinal cord and under the soft tissue on his back.. He is an extremely happy boy who has some gross motor delays and receives PT...
