baby gas

sorry for all of the questions but hey, what are these boards for, right?

my baby gets painful gas. ALOT. he causes him to scream in pain, not the uncomfy cry, the scream that hurts your heart to hear. he screams for various lengths until he passes gas and its LOUD. i dont mind the sound or frequency (5-10x a day) but its so frequent and so loud i can only imagine how painful it is in the small tummy. gas pains hurt ME so i cant even think of how baby feels.

i try and burp during and after every feeding and it helps, i think but what else can i do?

i also think baby HATES to poop... is this possible? can it hurt? scream violently and then poops, afterwards, all fine and happy. i assume its all connected, no pun intended, but i feel so helpless.

any help is appreciated.

Dd has gas too and it's brutal to watc her squirm in pain. She's much better now at passing gas herself. She's 7 weeks and in the beginning we had to massage her tummy and do her legs like a bicycle to get a fart.

Now I also use mylicon (cvs brand since I can't find the name brand) or mommys bliss gripe water or colic calm.

My sympathy goes to you. We had similar problems, but dd was a very frequent pooper. DH and I used to just cry along with her, it was so heartbreaking to see her discomfort.

We tried the gas drops after every feeding (not sure if this made a difference). We switched to the Dr. Brown bottles. Not sure if this did much either. Under our pediatricians recommendation, we also gave her a suppository, as he believed that the poop was blocking in the gas, and getting everything out would allow the gas to escape more easily. We also tried lying her on her stomach here and there while awake, and bicycled her legs. We also gave up the swaddle very early on so we could pump her legs to help get the gas out.

The only thing n the end that really made things better was a visit to a GI doctor at our pediatricia's suggestion. DD was dx with a milk protein allergy, and after 2 weeks on the right formula (in her case, an rx formula), she was a different child. I'm not sure if you are breast feeding. If so, an elimination diet would have to include milk products, anything with whey, and anything with soy.

I used Mylicon drops. I EBFd and would give her a dropper full following the directions on the box. I think it helped. I just put them right in her mouth, they taste pretty good.

Is it possible he has a milk allergy or intolerance? My dd had those issues with gas. Would wake in the middle of the night and just cry a painful cry for an hour or 2 passing gas the whole time. She never tested positive for tge allergy but i changed her formula anyway to alimentum and i had a brand new baby!
