Has anyone lost a sibling as a child?
My DH was 4 when he lost his 2 year old brother. I know that this loss has made a huge impact on him, even though he was so young at the time.
If you had a similar situation, how has it affected you? Do you still feel the effects as an adult?

Has anyone lost a sibling as a child?
My mom did, to me it always seemed like a part of her was missing bc they were so close and her old two siblings were super close. It also caused a lot of issues in her family bc her brother died while her father was in the hospital and they didnt tell my grandfather until days later. My mom was only 13, her brother was 4

Has anyone lost a sibling as a child?
Both of my parents lost a sibling when they were children. My oldest sister and my brother are named after them.
Nothing really affects my father (his bother was 6mos old) I believe my dad was 5or so when he died....
Even though my mother has 11 other siblings i know it still affects her, shes 65 and she was a teenager when her sister died (her sister was 11). You can tell when they are all together they always find a way to talk about her.

My grandma lost a sibling. She remembered the death her whole life because her mother gave birth to a baby the same day her older sister died. Her old sister was also had the same name as her mother. I am actually named after that old sister.

Has anyone lost a sibling as a child?
I did unfortunately. I was 19 and he was 16. It will always affect my life and especially the relationship I have with my parents. I gave my son my brothers name forged middle name. It's been 10 years now since he died and it still causes me quite a lot if anxiety. I fear someone else I'm close to will die. It forever changed me as a person however I try not to think about it daily. Please feel free to fm if you want to talk.

Before I was born, I had an older brother who died when he was only a couple of months old. My parents still talk about him, matter of fact his birthday just passed. He would've been about 41. Never affect any of us though, we obviously never knew him.

Has anyone lost a sibling as a child?
I was 14 and she was 19. It has effected me deeply and it was a horrible time in my life. She was killed in a car accident. The years had made it easier, but once I was engaged I started missing her more and now as a Mom I miss her terribly. She would have been my MOH and my daughters God Mother. The older I get the harder it seems to be. We also lost my step-father and that has been horrible also. He would have been a fantastic Grandfather.

I was 21, my sister was 14. It's sad, I miss her. I don't think I'm doing anything different in my live though.
My son (5) knows about it. He gets sad that he never met Aunt C. That makes me sad that he never met her.

Re: Has anyone lost a sibling as a child?
I am not even sure if its the same, but my parents lost their 7th child to a still birth when my mom was 8.5 months along. I was 14 years old, so I remember it well. I don't really think it ever had any negative impacts, but I often wonder what he would have been like..
I am also named after my moms sister who died as an infant. My mom said she doesn't remember much because she was so young.

My DH was 13, his sister 18 when she died in a car accident late on Christmas night. He thinks of her often. Their entire family dynamic changed, my MIL could not function for years. My DH & his siblings still talk about how terrible it was. She's buried with their Dad who died many year after her. When we visit their grave my DH talks about wondering who she would have become.
