Day out with Thomas

DS is 2. Is it worth it this year or wait until next year? And there seem to be 3 different packages (looking at the NJ event). If you have gone, are the extras worth it? He loves Thomas but I'm not sure if he's at the age where all the extras are worth it. KWIM?

Re: Day out with Thomas

Honestly, I thought it was a waste of money. We did it for DS's 2nd birthday at Strasburgh.

There wasn't that much to do other than ride the train. They had a few train tables, some coloring, and you could wait on line to pay for pictures with Thomas and Sir Toppan Hat.

The train ride lasted all of 15 minutes. They didn't do anything special on the train, so you could have been on any train.

Any one could go there and enter the area and see Thomas pull up, take pictures. Then you could ride regular train which is a longer ride and A LOT cheaper.

The RR museum across the street has a great kids area and is fun for the kids too.

We felt the same way.

You barely saw Thomas, couldn't tell he was pulling you and DS seemed to enjoy taking Metro North into NYC more.

When we got on the train, our little guy said , 'but this isn't Annie or clarabelle' (- the cargo trains that Thomas uses to pull people)

Re: Day out with Thomas

I'd wait one more year. If he's still into Thomas next year, then maybe consider it.

We waited til my son was almost 4. He went away from Thomas for a bit, but had a renewed interest in him again so we figured we'd splurge and do the train ride.

We booked the first train ride of the day mid-week, it wasn't too crowded, the lines were decent, the train wasn't packed, the weather was perfect, and we took my 4.5 month old daughter with us with relative ease. All that, and I still think it was a waste of money.

For me, it's a one-time trip. No need to pay the money to ride the train for 15 minutes. Like another poster said, you can see Thomas and be in the mix of things for free. They have a sales tent set up with all Thomas stuff (overpriced) but you can still get them a toy without paying to ride the train.
