Must have registry items
Aden and Anais swaddle blankets (and we didn't swaddle, they are just great!), Rock n Play sleeper, video monitor, Nose Frida Snotsucker, boppy pillow if bfing.
These are just some things I loved and still use a lot of them still at 12mo.

Completely agree.
Also, FP mobile (name escapes me, but the mobile part detaches when baby is older and leaves you with a crib soother and it includes a remote).
Car seat
Stroller (one the car seat snaps into and one for when baby is bigger)
Cloth diapers to use as burp cloths

Some type of bouncy chair. DD spit up a lot after eating, so it was nice to sit her in there versus holding her up for an hour!
Also the Zoli Buzz B electric nail file and Miracle Blankets.

the swing and bouncy seat were lifesavers. We also used the playmat at a really early age (he loved the baby einstein one because it had a sun that lights up at the top), swaddle blankets (we also liked the aiden and anais), rock n play, monitor, pack n play, pacifiers (he liked the nuk brand but I heard every baby has their own preference), baby tub with infant insert, t shirts that open in the front (he wore these until his umbilical cord fell off then we put him in regular newborn onesies since the area is really sensitive until the cord falls off), gas drops, playtex drop in bottles, breast pump, washclothes, towels - the kind with a little hood, nail clipper, thermometer. That's all I can recall but I'll add more if I think of something.
