Extended breastfeeders...cow's milk?

Hi girls, not sure what to do here. My first stopped nursing at 11 months most likely due to a low supply. My 2nd is now just over a year and still going strong. I know she doesn't *need* cow's milk, but she won't even drink it really. She is also a great eater. Eats anything and everything.

So extended breastfeeders, did you give milk other than nursing your LO?

I offered cows milk but DS did not want/like it. Our ped was fine with thst so long as he had other calcium sources like cheese and yogurt. He is 34 months now and still does not drink cows milk.

Extended breastfeeders...cow's milk?

I'm a ft wohm - so I did just start introducing cow's milk to db. I've been mixing it slowly - 2oz BM, 2oz whole milk and she's been doing really well with it! She gets these bottles during the day and I nurse morning and night. If you're home with your db, I don't think it is as necessary...unless you want to wean!

Re: Extended breastfeeders...cow's milk?

My first son BFed until 15 months. We introduced cow's milk at a year and he wanted nothing to do with it! We tried a ton of different things- warming the milk, mixing with breastmilk, bottle, straw cup, you name it. Finally, it occurred to me that maybe the whole milk was too thick for him, as the only liquids he had up till then were breastmilk and water, which are both very thin. So we tried giving him skim milk and he took it with no problem! So we gradually mixed our way up to whole milk over the course of a week and a half or so. We did a couple days of skim, then half skim/half 1%, then half 1%/half 2%, then half 2%/half whole, then all whole. Now, at almost 3 and a half, he is still a HUGE milk fanatic!

I am a FTWM but have stopped pumping. She nurses frequently when I am home with her, and although I am FT I do spend a lot of time with her.

She would drink it mixed, but I cut her off of the bottle cold turkey as I did with DC1.

Don't want to wean either. Leaving it up to her. Perhaps it is because it is not cut with anything and in a sippy now instead.

That is interesting! I will try this idea, thanks!

FTWM here, DS is 20 months. He drinks cow milk (whole) at daycare, nurses frequently with me. He will have either water, cow (1% usually), coconut or almond milk with meals. Can't say he loves milk, but he drinks it from time to time. Ped is not concerned since he is still nursing.

my niece is 18 months and weaned around 13 months. She never took cows milk, totally refused it. Still does. She eats yogurt and cheese, gets calcium elsewhere!

I nursed DD until she was 14 months. I also started giving her cow's milk at 11.5 months.

I nursed my DS until 14 months old. We started cows milk at 11 months, one sippy a day with dinner.

Extended breastfeeders...cow's milk?

DS is 19 months and still nurses at night. he gets a cup of milk with breakfast and lunch at daycare and i give him a cup with breakfast on the weekends with me. with me i'm lucky if he takes a few sips here and there, but at daycare they say he drinks most of the cup. i'm not too worried because he does get calcium other places.

DD is 13 months and I'm just starting to intro milk now. I tried soymilk today (she has an allergy to cow's milk) and she wouldn't even taste it. She hasn't had bm from a bottle or sippy in months so that's not making it any easier. For now I'm going to keep nursing but offer milk once a day in the hopes that she'll take something someday. She does have a yogurt pouch at lunch and a little cheese here and there as long as it's cooked.
