Need your best diaper cream recipes!

DD has had a terrible rash for the last 3 days. Nothing seems to be helping. It looks like her skin is open in some parts of it. I even let her sit with out a diaper for hours yesterday.

What are some mixtures that work really well? I need to try something else at this point.

The only thing that worked for DS was cortisone 10 twice a day and a heavy layer of cream (either triple paste or desitin max) over that and on all other diaper changes. Also stop using wipes and just use warm water.

I use luke warm water and just dab the bum and use a blow dry in low setting to dry the area completely
The I use hydrocortisone 1% (its OTC) over all the inflammed areas (its perfectly safe to use)
Then purple desitin and close up the diaper.

I would do this, for every other diaper change the first day, and then if it gets better, then use the hyrdocortisone twice the next day and once the day after.

When they get really red, I don't 'wipe' as much. I pat instead. I also prefer to use warm water with either a baby wipe or wash cloth to clean them. I find the wipes can irritate the rash. I always find desitin (purple top) and triple paste to work the best. Make sure the area is very dry before putting on the cream though. And if you can, leave her diaper free as often as possible.

If its just a rash ointment (a&d) and desitin over it

If its a yeast infection lotramin (athletes foot cream) and chorus one cream.

50% water with 50% apple cider vinegar--pat on at diaper changes.

Go without a diaper as much as possible.

DS has yet to have a diaper rash but I know many people who swear by CJ's Butter. They all say it takes the rash right away. I have some on hand for when the time comes. Smells delicious too!

My girls never had diaper rash, so I'm not sure if it cures....but sure does prevent. Crisco! My ped recommended it to us & we never had an issue, pat & fan dry & apply.

I have been using only a warm wash cloth to clean her with the purple desitin.

I ended up taking her to the ped bc she developed a fever. he suggested using Mylanta with triple paste.

He gave me samples of the triple paste but CVS did not have liquid Mylanta so I picked up Cortisone.

When my daughter has had a rash I let her soak in a warm bath with several handfuls of baking soda. That seems to help the pain right away. I did the baking soda bath and put coconut oil on her after recently for a rash and I couldn't even see where the rash was the next morning. Now I put the coconut oil on her at every diaper change. My daughter has never had open sores though. The baking soda might hurt on an open sore, not sure.

whenever DS would get a rash I used baby powder.
A little all over his tushy and by next diaper change it would be visibly better. (although if DD has open sores this would not be a good idea)

Open sores may be a yeast infection and that is why your cream isn't working. I found the best way to avoid rashes is drying off their bums before putting the new diaper on. Also, my girls get rashy the fastest when they are sitting in a poop too long.

If it is a yeast infection then I use monistat vaginal cream from Target (it comes with 3 suppositories and a vulva cream, I just use the vulva cream) I had taken my girls to the ped for a yeast rash and he gave them perscription cream. Then I mentioned monistat and he said it was fine, it was the same thing as the perscription. So now I just use that if they have a spot that looks like yeast, a little goes a long way.

You can also tell it's yeast if it is raised up patches or bumps vs flat on the bum.

I always say this on posts like this, bc I didn't know, so just incase, especially with the fever present.....

My baby had what I thought was the worst diaper rash EVER with open sores. It was so raw and awful and NOTHING worked.

My ped realized it may not be diaper rash at all and swabbed the baby's butt. Turns out the baby had strep which presents as a raw diaper rash in babies. Just something to look into if you have explored all other avenues and nothing is working.

When I had my twins one of them had SEVERE diaper rash for about 10 days & he was only like 2 or 3 weeks old. He was even bleeding. None ofthose creams worked & finally had to go to dermotolgist for prescription. He had some kind of fungus

Balmex a&d and destin mixed at the first sign of a diaper rash.....I never had to use bc this mixture worked every time but the doc recommended baby powder w cornstarch mixed w mylanta .....my dd#1 had diaper rashes I swear every time she pooped it was crazy her poop was so acidic and her skin so sensitive that no matter how fast I changed a poop diaper she was already red and irritated on the way to a rash .....it was crazy....my dd#2 never even had one rash ...amazing to me

Ds just had a terrible one. Ped told me to try maalox or mylanta on his butt. Let it dry then put aquaphor over it. We did that and it worked great. At some changes when he was really in pain we put on the maalox first then butt paste and then the aquaphor.
