I'm shocked too but mostly outraged and angry! On Friday I watched the events unfold most of the day. I listened to dozens of people who knew the younger brother who said he was a normal teen. I listened to his hs wrestling coach who said they made him a captain of the team because he was encouraging and a great team member. I can't stop thinking how could this many people misjudge him? He volunteered his time tutoring inner city kids. He didn't need to go this far to assimilate. He could have simply gone to school here and made no connections with anyone if his only mission was to attack us. I do believe he is just a sociopath. I think he has to be really sick/ detached from reality to kill people on Monday and go back to school Tuesday. I don't think he or the brother were that smart either. They had to know there would be cameras and yet they stayed around here for days without any escape plan. I think it's bs that he always hated Americans. In fact I think he enjoyed our lifestyle. I think he is a weak person who followed along with whatever his big bro told him what to do. I don't feel bad for him at all. I was happy they took him alive so maybe he will provide some insight and answer some questions.
You have to understand that terrorists often act as normal as possible and try to be as American as possible to fool people. This has been found in many cases.

Re: My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I have no sympathy for him.
None.
I am curious to know what went wrong in their life, however, part of me strongly believes that there are just people out there who are purely evil, and no amount of medications, psychiatrists or therapy would ever change that.
Also someone shared an article here the other day about the older brother and his wife and honestly, there seem to be red flags all over that (she became isolated from her parents, changed her style of dress, and the way the article read, her parents did not even know she had a child until she showed up one day with the baby).

My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I have sympathy for him, but in a weird way - I don't feel bad that he was shot and is in the hospital, will go to jail, etc. I feel bad/sad that something in his life or in his head got so twisted that he thought this is what he needed to do - more because it means that it can/will happen for other people, than for him specifically, if that makes any sense...
I've been incredibly fortunate that so far no one I know has been directly impacted by a terrorist attack, but it keeps inching closer and closer (my father in law's office is right at the finish line, one of my good friends was at the marathon right there but left earlier), and I have a sinking feeling that it is just a matter of time.
And it's *not* about gun control. Because he didn't have a gun permit, nor did his brother, and the bombs were homemade, probably based off instructions found on the internet. If someone wants to do something crazy like this, they are going to do it, no matter what laws or restrictions are in place. I guess the solution is to stop it at the root, but the question is, where is the root? Mental illness? Religious fanaticism? Terrorist group recruitment?

I have similar thoughts.
I don't know if it's the fact that I'm a mother now, (one major reason that I'm NOT sympathetic to people like this), but I too feel like it's a matter of time.
We also don't live in a society that values prevention to potentially help people who could be stopped early on.
(If in fact it is a mental illness thing).

My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I echo the posters that say I have no sympathy for this motherfuckker. I hope they torment and torture him, I wish they would do it on national TV so others like him can see what we will do if they pull this shit again.
I am as Democratic as they come, some even call me a liberal, and this is how I feel.

Re: My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I don't even feel one PANG of sympathy for him. I was so distraught over the events..that poor 8 year old who was killed..ugh..the image of him standing innocently near the bomber before being killed will haunt me forever. These two SOCIOPATHS destroyed innocent lives...And like a PP stated, reading the account of this guy placing the bag and looking in the eyes of Jeffrey Bauman who lost both his legs gave me chills. This is the act of a psycho with no soul, so no..no sympathy/empathy here.
I hope he and his brother ROT

Re: My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
When my husband was in afghanistan for half a year, he learned more about the psychology behind people who perform these terrorist acts....a pp stated that they assimilate to our culture and pretend to be as American as they can, but what is going on in their heads is completely different. She is 100% right. Smile at everyone during the day, build weapons at night. Doesn't matter what kind of terrorist they are, where they are from or their ultimate motives. They have NO SOULS

I'm glad they didn't kill him and I hope he cooperates with the FBI so we can get some answers as to why they did this. I think a lot of it has to do with the brother.
They say he's communicating via writing now. I hope he provides some answers and then is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
I wonder if they were carrying out orders from someone or someones.
What I find interesting is how the older brother was looked into by the FBI.
What these brothers did was horrible, horrifying, terroristic. But in the end 4 innocent lives were taken. Immediately, everyone wanted them found, killed, tortured, whatever, especially because, as we now know, they were Muslim (but even before we found that out, everyone was looking to someone Muslim or foreign.) What confuses me though is someone like Adam Lanza kills 26 innocent people, 20 of them children, and instead of wanting justice for them, many people are concerned for their 2nd amendment rights. It's like for Sandy Hook, 26 people were brutally murdered and immediately many start panicking about gun control but 2 Muslims with bombs and guns commit a horrific act like they did and suddenly people are calling out for torturing them and closing the borders (yes I've seen several people mention this). How are these two heinous acts any different than one was committed by a white guy and the other committed by 2 Muslims? Sorry for the tangent but I can't help but think about this. I hope this makes sense lol.
I agree, this confuses me too. This was obviously a horrible act of violence but I'm not really getting how it differs from Sandy Hook, the Aurora movie theater, Columbine, etc. Glad it's not just me.
I do not have sympathy for this guy in the least. The only thing that makes me sad is the deaths/injuries of the victims and the fact that terrorism exists at all.

I know if Adam Lanza were alive people would be screaming for his torture as well. But i do get what is being said about people being so concerned with their rights over gun control. Ridiculous.

I couldn't agree more. No compassion, no sympathy. I don't believe in torture, but I hope he suffers. Quite frankly, I find it disturbing that people feel empathy for someone who plotted something so wicked.

Yes, you're right. I guess that's a big part of it. Plus I'm sure having these guys be on the run and shutting down cities to find them added to everyone's anxiety.

My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I don't feel bad for him. I'm not in favor of torture, and I do think everything related to his prosecution needs to be by the book (Miranda, etc.) so that a civil rights lawyer looking to get famous can't get him off because of a loophole. Then I hope he lives a long, long miserable life in solitary.
I do feel bad for the immigrant and Muslim communities. It's terrible that we scapegoat them. Look at the uncle- he comes here, works hard, loves what he was able to do and appreciates it. I like to think the majority of immigrants are like him. And the vast majority of Muslims are peaceful and do not support violence. I used to teach in a school with a lot of Muslim students, and when bin Laden was killed we were discussing it and when I mentioned he was Muslim, those kids got very upset with me. They said he wasn't Muslim because he didn't live his life the way their faith expected. I thought that was really interesting and I'm sure they weren't the only ones who feel that way.

Im sorry, I just dont understand how people can equate being or acting American as not being a threat. Clearly, plenty of Americans want to hurt Americans...
Im sorry, I tried to resize this picture, but now you cant read the words. It just covers info about American born terrorists, and the point that they can be just as evil and hate just as much as the new Americans. Image Attachment(s):

Re: My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I feel he was recruited and brainwashed by his brother, but even then, he knew fully what he was doing and the consequences of it. He also showed no remorse for the victims of the bombing or by killing the cop and attempting to kill many other officers. There should be no leniancy on him whatsoever.
I don't believe that he came to this country and assimilated in order to plot an attack, solely due to his age. I doubt when he came here at 9 years old he was thinking about this. If he came here in his 20's then attacked, I would agree that he did.
"Closing the border" wouldn't have made a difference in this case IMO. He came here as a child, and to say that all kids come here will turn evil is unfair.
I do believe that the government needs to investigate and shut down any religions organization, muslim or otherwise, that preaches extremist ideas. IMO any organization that's purpose is to promote violence should not be protected under religious freedom, and that includes groups such as the KKK in addition to the individual mosques that preach terrorism. Nipping that in the bud will help in preventing these "home grown" terrorists.
The most sickening part of all of this is that there are people out there who truly believe that the government planted these bombs in order to have an excuse to execute "martial law" which "violated the rights" by searching everyone's home in Watertown. They are also claiming that the victims were actors and that the whole thing was staged.
I don't ever remember people with these ridiculous ideas coming out after Oklahoma City, but these conspiracy theory nuts are out and about nowadays between this, 9/11 and Sandy Hook.

I have no sympathy for Adam Lanza or any homicidal lunatic but a terrorist evokes a slightly different emotion in me.
Domestic terrorism is the unlawful use, or threatened use, of force or violence by a group or individual based and operating entirely within the United States or Puerto Rico without foreign direction committed against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof in furtherance of political or social objectives.
So to me, if you take out the part of the definition that says "coerce a government" and "political", I'd definitely say Adam Lanza, Timothy McVeigh, and the other Americans who terrorized their victims and this country are terrorists as well.
Just the way I see it.

I agree.
It makes me very uncomfortable that the govt can pick and choose which American citizens are entitled to legal rights/due process, and which aren't when they are committing similar crimes. If he wasn't a citizen it would be a different story completely.
Don't get me wrong. I feel no sympathy for him. I want him to pay. But the way they are going about it feels uncomfortable to me.
