My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I was shocked, devastated and outraged about the bombings last week. I had terrible 9/11 flash backs and couldn't sleep.
Never in my life, did I even think of the word "terrorism" until that day almost 12 years ago. Never did I think that there would be another attack on civilians in my life time after 9/11.
To see the horror on the victims faces, the sounds of sirens, the mayhem, it was just all too familiar.
I, like everyone else wanted the bomber(s) caught and punished. Then, the suspects faces were everywhere.
It was unbelievable. They looked just like us.. Young, normal looking, college aged kids.
The next few days were a blur of information, news reports and waiting.
Then when the older brother was killed and the younger suspect was found in the boat, I didn't feel what most people felt. The public celebrated the capture. It was like the monster was caught and we were all safe again.
I immediately felt sadness. I was not angry at that 19 year old boy, I didn't want to torture or kill him, I felt sadness..
He was a young, smart, boy who had an amazing future ahead of him. What happened to him in his life that made him be a part of such an unspeakable act? Was he brainwashed? Was he forced into it by his older brother who was the only family he had in his life?
I also don't feel like it's "over". Maybe this is just the beginning? Maybe there are hundreds/thousands of young, smart people among us right now that feel hatred toward our country and people.
Just a sad, sad situation. Anyone else feel this way?

Re: My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
Yes.. I definitely want to know what happened to turn the younger brother. From all accounts he seemed like a normal American teenager.. Even became a citizen on 9-11-12..
It also plagues me about the older brother- married to an American and raising a 3 year old... How could he put the backpack behind someone else's child when he was a father
eta- I wanted to add that in no way am I sympathetic to him, I just have a morbid curiosity to understand how this happens that someone seemingly normal turns- but then of course, maybe he was just a sociopath and was never what he seemed. And of course, my sympathies only lie with the victims

My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
Personally I think he's a sociopath. His classmates say he went out partying the night after the bombings, and acted totally normal and relaxed.
We don't know the full story of his past. But many people have had horrid life experiences and don't commit acts like this. I feel zero sympathy. Maybe it's because i live in Boston.

Re: My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I'm glad they didn't kill him and I hope he cooperates with the FBI so we can get some answers as to why they did this. I think a lot of it has to do with the brother.
They say he's communicating via writing now. I hope he provides some answers and then is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
I wonder if they were carrying out orders from someone or someones.
What I find interesting is how the older brother was looked into by the FBI.
What these brothers did was horrible, horrifying, terroristic. But in the end 4 innocent lives were taken. Immediately, everyone wanted them found, killed, tortured, whatever, especially because, as we now know, they were Muslim (but even before we found that out, everyone was looking to someone Muslim or foreign.) What confuses me though is someone like Adam Lanza kills 26 innocent people, 20 of them children, and instead of wanting justice for them, many people are concerned for their 2nd amendment rights. It's like for Sandy Hook, 26 people were brutally murdered and immediately many start panicking about gun control but 2 Muslims with bombs and guns commit a horrific act like they did and suddenly people are calling out for torturing them and closing the borders (yes I've seen several people mention this). How are these two heinous acts any different than one was committed by a white guy and the other committed by 2 Muslims? Sorry for the tangent but I can't help but think about this. I hope this makes sense lol.

Jeff Bauman, the guy who lost both his legs and whose pic was all over the place with his torn off legs showing, was the one who ID'd the younger brother. Said he placed the bag right at Jeff's feet, looked him in the eyes and walked away. He is seen calmly walking away on another surveillance tape after the bomb went off. He went out partying after, that is not someone who is remorseful.
That is pure evil.
6 people from my hometown, friends of my brother and cousin, were injured in the attack, 3 of them severely. I have zero sympathy for this monster.

He might have been a "young, smart boy" but I don't feel sad for him. He is a disgusting POS and a sociopath. No matter what went on in his life, there is no excuse for what he did. There are plenty of people with rough childhoods that overcome & don't do what this monster did.

I didn't feel sadness..
I can't help but wonder why and/or how someone can get to this point. How can someone kill and knowingly inflict so much harm on a group of innocent people. It's just sickening.
It's a reminder of just how susceptible we are and I will definitely think twice about where I bring my kids...sad but true.

I don't feel sad at all. I don't care what reasons he had for doing it, he still did it. When I think of the families that lost their loved ones and all the people that were severely injured I don't feel bad for him. He made his bed, let him lie in it.

Re: My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I just wish I could go inside his head for a moment to understand how someone who seemed so Americanized could do this. I really feel he did it bc his older brother was someone he looked up to and so maybe his brother recruited him. I don't feel bad for him bc he is an adult. He made a decision to do that. But I just can't understand it and I kind of wish I did. I want answers as to EXACTLY WHY he did this

I feel sad for the victims, not someone who deliberately killed 4 people, injured hundreds more and terrorized an entire country.

This is close to how I feel too...it's a very weird and different situation than other 'typical' terrorists IMO. He is American but what he did was against US...in fact one of the people he killed was a foreign grad student. I don't see how using these bombs is different than Adam Lanza or the CO movie theater shooter...they all were a threat to public safety. It is interesting to see how our gov't will respond, I hope there are some answers that come from him being alive. I'm surprised at HOW different everyone's reactions are to this

Re: My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I would like to clarify myself. I feel tremendously for all of the victims and their families.
My point is; I am past the point of anger. I am more in a state of shock and disbelief that a young, American Citizen could have done this.

Re: My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I think I understand where you are coming from in a sense. I feel sad that it happened but not sad for him. Sad that someone with such potential chose this path. I'm just so baffled and confused as to why he and his brother felt the need to do this. This was their home for years. I absolutely feel anger and hatred towards him (them). I don't care what his reasonings are or why he did what he did. The point is that he did it on his own free will and ruined the lives of so many.
After seeing the still frame of him a few heads behind that sweet little 8 year old boy with the backpack inches away I became sick just knowing that he knew 100% that he was about to devastate a crowd of innocent people. He is a monster.

My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I think people are baffled because for all intents and purposes he seemed like a normal 19 YO college kid. He went to a good school, was social, did normal things. What made him commit this heinous act? Usually when people commit terrorist attacks or any kind of mass murder there are signs. In his case it doesn't seem there were any signs. He seemed normal your boy next door type. Definitely didn't seem like an extremist according to his twitter and friends. I can't wrap my head around why he would risk all the good he had going for him to do something so disgusting.

I'm glad I made sense to someone!
I see Adam Lanza as a terrorist as well. Honestly it's all just terminology. I was trying to explain this in a previous post but didn't explain myself well enough. After 9/11 the media was always so quick to link strong Muslim faith to terrorism. They did it with tsarnaev as well, constantly sure to mention that he was "very religious". When questioning the family on national tv they asked if they were practicing Muslims. They never bothered to discuss Adam lanza's faith. It pisses me off bc there are a lot of weak minds out there and they are programming them to link islam with radicals and terrorists.
As for the 2nd amendment stuff with sandy hook I do feel that there was talk of and attempts at knee jerk legislation before anyone even had facts. I think that the difference is that people still view guns as something that can be used for other purposes besides murder whereas bombs are really only for one purpose. Mass murder and damage. But in Adam lanza's case...he used it for mass murder and so that makes him a terrorist too in my eyes.
But yeah, back to my original point...the media has made people believe that "terrorism" is exclusively foreign activity

These are my sentiments exactly! I relive 9/11 every day. My dh has survivor's guilt. I don't know if it will ever pass for him. The nights have gotten easier, but he still has nightmares (fewer and fewer) and I can still smell the human flesh burning. We lived right up the East River and OMG, the smell was so bad.
So, no, I don't feel bad for that 19 yr old. He knew right from wrong. I think they should release him into Fenway and let the fans pelt his ass with base balls. Or turn him loose during a Bruins game. I support the death penalty, but I think that would be too kind for him and I certainly don't want to be paying for 3 hots and a cot for the next 70 years.

Re: My feelings about the 19 year old Boston Bombing suspect.
I'm shocked too but mostly outraged and angry! On Friday I watched the events unfold most of the day. I listened to dozens of people who knew the younger brother who said he was a normal teen. I listened to his hs wrestling coach who said they made him a captain of the team because he was encouraging and a great team member. I can't stop thinking how could this many people misjudge him? He volunteered his time tutoring inner city kids. He didn't need to go this far to assimilate. He could have simply gone to school here and made no connections with anyone if his only mission was to attack us. I do believe he is just a sociopath. I think he has to be really sick/ detached from reality to kill people on Monday and go back to school Tuesday. I don't think he or the brother were that smart either. They had to know there would be cameras and yet they stayed around here for days without any escape plan. I think it's bs that he always hated Americans. In fact I think he enjoyed our lifestyle. I think he is a weak person who followed along with whatever his big bro told him what to do. I don't feel bad for him at all. I was happy they took him alive so maybe he will provide some insight and answer some questions.

This.
I hate to say it but it was a matter of when and where the next attack happened. Terrorists are all over the place with the same agenda. Whether this kid was influenced by his brother or not, he participated in these acts and felt no remorse during and afterwards.
