Do you think white cribs are "girlie"?

We are doing a white/gray gender neutral nursery for our twins and will incorporate pinks and blues once I deliver. I chose very basic cribs that are on the lower end and do not convert into full beds... we don't have the room for 2 full beds in one room and will eventually get bunk beds or something similar for the twins. I showed DH the type of crib that I want and he is adamant about white cribs being for girls. I was just looking into traditinal cribs without the huge backboards, just rectangular. What do you think? He actually made his point in BBB last night bc every single white crib was displayed with pink bedding. Chat Icon

IMO I think it is more the design and embellishments on the crib than the color itself. There are cribs that are white that with the right embellishments will look very masculine and dark wood cribs that look feminine.
I personally plan to go cream for the nursery, but I am also teamChat Icon So it makes it easier. If I was Chat Icon I would not do cream. I would do white or a light wood and do dark accents with sports or trucks or something.

Re: Do you think white cribs are "girlie"?

depends on the crib and what you put with it. a lot of nautical boy bedding is shown with white cribs and I don't think it looks girly at all!

Re: Do you think white cribs are "girlie"?

We are team green and doing gray and white as well. Originally we picked out a white crib and furniture and were then told it's too girly. It didnt bother us but we thought about the fact that since we were getting a convertible crib our potential son could have a white bed and I do think that might be on the feminine side. Since you aren't converting the cribs to beds than I say go for it! We opted for a Gray crib by Munire. External Image

No. I think it depends in the style more. I think mine look neutral because the lines are straight. My friend has a white set for her son with blue/boy bedding and there is no doubt its a boys room. Hers also has straight lines.

I absolutely love the grey!!! What store carries this?

And as for white cribs, yes, imo I do find them girly, but I think that's b/c I imagine how I'd have to decorate the room to go w/ white for a boy and I can only think of more feminine styling. So, I think grey is a great option instead (hence me loving the set above, we are team greeners too!).

Thanks! Behr's carries the line. It's a new collection so that floor model isn't in yet. We are going taking a leap of faith and have ordered it anyway. Yikes!

I LOVE this!!! I hadn't even thought of gray furniture but this is beautiful.

This is the very simple crib that I had in mind...

IDK, I feel like I can't do the dark espresso furniture that he likes with a gray/white theme... I can't visualize anything other than white and now the gray set above!

Re: Do you think white cribs are "girlie"?

We are doing two white cribs for our twin boys. The room will be painted gray. If we were to go with dark furniture it would make a small room look even smaller. If you look at the Pottery Barn website, they have a lot of white cribs paired with boy bedding. We picked a basic Baby's Dream crib from Behr's where the back isn't large, it doesn't convert to a full sized bed. The Pottery Barn Kendall crib has excellent ratings on Consumer Reports and was solid and sturdy when we looked at it.

I don't think any neutral colors are really gender specific. We got a black crib and are Chat Icon lol

BRU has a driftwood crib. It's beautiful. Wish I was in the market for a crib. I thought it would be wonderful for either girls or boys.

I have to be honest and I say that I agree with our DH. My feelings on white baby furniture is that it is REALLY pretty and more for a girl. Depending on the type of nursery you do though. I feel as though while the crib is only for when he is a baby, the rest of the furniture is for when he gets older as well. I can't imagine my 13 year old son wanting a white dresser and I'm hoping this furniture lasts at least that long.

We were team green and weren't with a very neutral white crib. To me it was what you put inside. It is a simple crib. No Rosettes our swirly designs.

I agree that I would never use white furniture for DSs once they are older but again I got cribs that do not convert. I am buying a cheap IKEA dresser for now as well. I do not plan on using this furniture for years. I'm somehow going to have to fit twin beds and a dresser in the room when they aren't ready for bunk beds. Hopefully at some point we will be able to afford to put an addition on the house.

Not girly at all. It will be with greys and blues for a boy, right?

And ITA white cribs for twin girls is perfect ;)

The nursery is part of why we found out. We were doing white either way. I probably would have done a grey yellow and white set from PB if I had boys.

IMO i will get a white crib if its a girl and a dark borwn if its a boy. I do think white cribs are more for girls but I have seen white cribs for boys and it looks great. Its just a matter on how you will decorate

I loove white but I prefer dark wood regardless of gender.. just my personal preference.. I do have a friend that is doing white for gender neutral because she has a smaller room and I think its going to look fabulous since the crib could be masculine/feminine:)

There is a grey crib at BBB....It's not on the website though!! I loved it, but I was stuck on wanting dark wood instead!
