Chicken Pox. Anyones child get it even after being vaccinated?

My daughter has been exposed at preschool and I am freaking out! They say you can still get a mild case even if you had the shot. Just wondering as I dont see many posts about kids having chicken pox on this site!

My ped said the shot gave like 80% immunity when I asked about being exposed to shingles. I never had the shot but did get CP as a child ( no shot then) I had a total of 5 dots and never felt sick. Ped said if the girls got is most likely they would only have a mild case like that. We never had an issue. I wouldn't worry too much you could be exposed to it anyday when you go out and you would never know. My friend's children got it several years ago from chuck e cheese.

True, I guess you really never know who is a carrier. I am just so stressed because how would I stop a 3 yr old from scratching? And would I take FMLA bc I have nobody else to stay home with her?! Grr.....

We don't do the varicella vaccine where I live and both of my kids have had the chicken pox, it's gross but goes away within a few days. My daughter had spots all over her face, but you wouldn't know now. She didn't actually itch too much, but you could tell she was uncomfortable.

My neice got chicken pox after getting the first dose of the vaccine. She had a very mild case and was fine.

Where i am from nobody gets the Vaccine and everyone i know had them as kids. It is better for a child to get them than an adult as it can cause more issues in an adult.
They are itcy and gross but they get over them.

My friends DD got them after she got the vaccine - on her 2nd birthday. She had a very mild case, just a few spots and it lasted maybe 2-3 days.

They typically break out 10-14 days after exposure.

DS got the chicken pox at 11 months so he hadn't gotten the vaccine. We noticed on day 12 after he was exposed (his little daycare friend had gone to see family in England and stayed with her cousins who had them). He was out of daycare for 5 days and covered head to toe with spots. It looked worse than it was (other than childcare issues). He really only itched the ones on his scalp since he liked to rub his head when he was relaxing for bed.

I believe if they get the shot and they are exposed there is less risk of contracting it at all and if they do contract it , it would be a MUCH milder case.

I believe their immunity increases based on how many shots they have had. After only one vaccine I have heard of kids getting it - last year my friend's son pre-k class had an "outbreak" of it all among vaccinated kids.

That said, honestly, it is almost a blessing if they get it - look at it this way - they will have a mild case (presumably because they had the shot) and now your DC will have life long immunity (which they don't have from the shot). And, since you have a DD - even better - she'll never have to worry about her immunity wearing off while she is pg - which is the most dangerous time to get the chicken pox and I certainly wouldn't want to get the vaccine either!

Not necessarily I eas told by my OB and my PCP that I might not have immunity bc they have seen people with mild cases not have immunity when they did a tither. I was lucky bc I only had about 5 spots but you never know.

No experience with my children, but my younger brother got the chicken pox after getting the shot. It was a fairly mild case, but that might've been because he was young at the time (4 I think?)

But did you have the vaccine? I was told that when you have the vaccine and the actual chicken pox after it you are immune for life - generally speaking I guess since there are always exceptions!
