Medela PISA - gold standard of pumps?

I'm being induced next Monday and finally getting around to pumps.
I find the most reviews on the Medela Pump In Style. Does anyone use any other pump that they love? I would love anyother option.
Thanks!

Re: Medela PISA - gold standard of pumps?

I had and used a Medela PIS and really loved it. I was in the hospital and they gave me a hospital grade one to use while I was there and frankly I felt that the Medela did just as good a job of pumping. When I first had my son 5 years ago, the LC at the hospital gave me a manual medela pump. So if you can get one to do that for you, that might be a good option. I would see how you take to nursing before you go out and buy any pump. I nursed my son for a year and my daughter for six months (I had to take meds for a tick bite that made me have to stop earlier than I really wanted to). What I would do is register for one, and use the completion bonus as well as any other gcs you might receive after your baby is born to purchase the pump to help defray the costs. I also recommend getting a hands free nursing bra, as it will make the entire process so much easier. Lastly, make sure to get the right size heads for the pump so that they properly fit you. Depending upon your particular size you may also need different elbow joints for the pump too.

I actually did nurse my daughter for several months, but never really pumped. I borrowed a pump in style, but didn't use it that often. I get a free pump this time, so I wanted rec's.

I had the freestyle and loved it - easier to pump wherever because it is battery operated

Love my freestyle. I work from home so I mostly nurse DD but when I do need to pump, I like that it is battery operated. It also comes in handy when I have to be out of the house, I can pump in my car.

I have the PISA and I bought a hands free bra to use with it. Pumping sucks, but I was able to pump two full bottles in around 10 minutes with it. It does have a battery pack, it's just not as portable as the freestyle is.

I used Ameda purely yours ultra and I loved it. DS had trouble latching for the first two month and I used it 7-8 times a day. When I went back to work I used it 3 times a days until DS was 1. I never had any trouble with it. I highly recommend it.

I have both a PISA and Freestyle and loved them both. However, the size and weight of the Freestyle is so much better. It made pumping much more convenient when I was out of the house.
