XPOST FROM PETS
I feel like this board gets more traffic so I'm xposting! please-if you can help these dogs do so!!
you can foster, adopt or send donations to the many great dog/cat rescue groups out there.
The NYC ACC (animal care & control) is a killing machine---tons of dogs get killed each year ( a bunch each night!)--healthy ones, puppies, throw away mamas---and the list goes on-it's disgusting--Im just trying to spread the word in case you are not familiar with the NYC shelters. There are 3--brooklyn, staten island, and manhattan----only 3 for 5 boroughs! that's part of the reason the kill rate is so high-overcrowding due to the lack of space. they have not had a medical director for over 2 years and the conditions of the shelters are dirty. they have unqualified people performing stuff that veterinarians and vet techs should be doing. the organization (if you can call it that) is horrible----the communication is horrible-they have killed the wrong dogs due to 'glitches' including family pets that families were looking for.
they leave dog's medical conditions untreated--ie: getting hit by a car
a dog recently bleed to death due to a botched spay or neuter (forgot which one!!) bc an uncertified person performed it. they closed their doors during super storm sandy--not taking in any animals that were displaced bc of the storm. i could go on and on!
Manhattan borough president scott stringer is stepping up--finally someone to be the voice of the voiceless! i will post his petition--if you can take a moment to sign--a lot of people would appreciate it. www.newyorkcitypaws.org
i will post a few videos as well and a list of rescues that pull these dogs on a daily basis each day/night (if you want to apply to adopt/foster/donate) give me a few moments-i will have to come back to edit.
if you can't foster or adopt-donate to rescues and at least share. like urgent part 2 death row dogs on Facebook and share the dog's pictures as much as you can-you never know who will see your 'like' or 'share'!! although this is heart wrenching at times---i do cry some nights--not gonna lie! but i am also happy when dogs are 'safe'. if ever you hear of someone not wanting or able to take care of their dog/cat--please tell them to contact a rescue for help and NOT TO DROP their dog/cat to one of these shelters---owner surrender dogs are only held for a few days-then they are put on the 'kill' list well, if you read this entire thing-thanks-i truly appreciate it. just trying to help!

***the reason why euthanasia rates are down & adoption rates are up is due to the hard work of volunteers and rescues---the ACC doesn't work to promote adoptions--they are taking credit for what others do! http://www.mbpo.org/uploads/FINALedAstray.pdf

XPOST FROM PETS
I have a foster dog off the facebook urgent list right now. She was scheduled to die on 12.18.12 (her name was Pinkie) I have had her for almost a month and she is lovely. Everything previous poster is saying is absolutely true. Every night the rescue groups post the dogs and cats "on the list" for the next day. There are typically between 6 to 20 dogs and about 10 cats on the list every. single. day.
I would say if fostering or adopting is something you a interested in doing that you consider checking out the dogs that are not only due to be destroyed that night but look at the other folders for the urgent and super urgent. It gives you more than 12 hours to get applications in to the New Hope rescue groups. Some of the dogs can only be pulled by the rescue group. Some can be adopted directly from the animal control's website with a $50 "hold" deposit. However only do that if you are 100% going to adopt. If you put a hold on a dog and do not go get it the dog misses it's chance to get adopted or pulled by someone else. Lots of dogs end up being put to sleep that way.
Make sure you read the write ups on the dogs in case they have issues with kids, cats or other dogs etc. but also don't take it ALL as fact. See what the volunteers say about the dog. They see them in a much more relaxed state of mind.
My foster dog is amazing and her write up was not accurate at all. Her evaluation was pretty harsh. If it wasn't for the rescuer having a big problem with her original fosterer and me not getting to read her bio before I agreed to foster her I would not have taken her in to my home. I didn't read her bio until she had been her for two weeks and it is a good thing I didn't. None of it mattered because she is a very even temperament dog. She is going to be spayed next week if we can get an appointment. We are actually considering adopting her because she is just that wonderful!

Re: XPOST FROM PETS
Thank you for doing what you do! As someone who took a dog off the street i know what its like to give a new life some poor lost sole. He could of ended up and that list. My heart breaks for these poor babies when i look in their eyes! I dont know how people do these things to these poor animals! My heart breaks even more for the pits.... I LOVE mine with all my heart and there are so many out there that are killed everyday. sooo sad. I try and talk everyone out of buying animals when i can.
i wish i could take them all home and give them a home!

Thanks so much! Helping in rescue is so time consuming and initially was so draining and upsetting but, I pushed through that in hopes of helping as many as I could! :) Pits get such a bad rap---so many misconceptions. People who are uneducated about the breed always spreading false info-it is ashame. People hear the word pitbull and immediately make false statements. Keep lovin' your pit and spreading about adoption and buying from legit breeders!
