Children's Ibprofen for a 19 month old ??
DS2 has a high fever 103+ since 230. I gave him Tylenol ( which I thought was Ibprofen) so I discovered that the only Ibprofen we have is children's . It says ask Dr under 2 years but 24-26 lbs. So he is 19 months 24lbs can I give 5mls??

Personally I go by weight. But putting a call into your ped to be sure won't hurt. As far as I know they don't make medications with dosage recommendations for under 2 anymore.
Hope he's better soon!!

Children's Ibprofen for a 19 month old ??
I have NEVER given 5ML. I stick with the 1.25 my twins are 19lbs & 26lbs. Sometimes for the bigger guy I will go up to 2. but I NEVER gave 5. I would check with Dr. That much may really knock em out.

Children's Ibprofen for a 19 month old ??
Honestly I only buy the children's now. The concentration of med per ml is the same, but you get 4oz of Tylenol or whatever for the sam eprice as the Infants that is only 1oz. I give 5ml to my 3 year old and 2.5ml to my 1 year old who is 23 pounds. I talked to my ped about it and she says it's fine. The same for ibuprofen

Children's Ibprofen for a 19 month old ??
my Dr's chart does say 5ml of Childrens is OK for 24-35lbs. i have only used infants so I can't tell you from personal experience.

Here's where the confusion can be, which is why medicine regulations are being changed....
What is the concentration of medicine for the bottle that you have?? 75mg is the correct doseage for 18-23 pounds. If you have infant drops with the concentration of 50mg per 1.25 dropper then you should be giving 1 1/2 droppers. BUT if you have children's ibuprofin where the concentration on the bottle states 100mg per 5ml then the correct doseage is 3/4 of a teaspoon (3.75ml)
For 24 lbs to 35 lbs the doseage is 100mg. So again, depending on the concentration of the medicine would mean you would give 2 droppers (2.5ml) of INFANT concentration of 50mg per dropper OR 5ml of CHILDREN'S concentration of 100mg.
Reading the label and knowing the concentration you are dealing with can mean a big deal. You can easily overdose or underdose a child by always giving the same amount even if you have a different bottle then the last time.
Go to this page and they have a link to a very easy to read doseage chart for ibuprofin as well as tylenol. (Sorry I can't direct link from my phone)

( PregowithTwins when I type "you" I don't mean you specifically. I quoted to make the point that there could be confusion with doseages depending on the concentration, just wanted to let you know I wasn't singling you out)
