parent napping???

My DS is only 10 months but I have only napped twice. Both times he was in his swing and I was laying behind him. Also, he was already 7 months. Before then, wayyyyyyyyy to nervous!

Re: parent napping???

My DD is 4 and I am pregnant with #2 so there are days I am just wiped out. Sometimes the two of us will curl up on the couch together and I will doze off for maybe 20-30 min and she watches her shows on Netflix through the Roku. I don't worry about her because she is very good, never gets into trouble, and literally doesn't move off the couch with me..........if she even moves slightly it wakes me up. She knows its our rest time and she likes just relaxing for a bit with me. I have been doing it for months with no issues.

Re: parent napping???

Around 3+ is when a lot of DC move to a toddler bed. That means that every single night, you are asleep, and DC is able to wander around the house, especially if they are potty trained(ing), and need full access to the bathroom. If you can sleep for 8 hours a night, an hour nap during the day should be just fine, too. Chat Icon Chat Icon

parent napping???

I have fallen asleep onthe couch with my almost 3 year old watching morning shows while my DS was still sleeping. She knows the rules and will wake me for just about any reason. I don't like doing it, but some mornings I have to close my eyes for a little bit. My meds wipe me out and she knows it.

I wouldn't call it napping, but dozingChat Icon

I've dozed off many times while watching a movie or something with my DD's. But even dozing you have an ear for everything and your up in a split second if something is going on.

I don't know about common but I've been able to do that since DS was 3 years old. He's a very good listener and doesn't get into trouble. If I really need it, I nap while DD naps.

DD, on the other hand, will not be ready for me to do this until she is about 6 Chat Icon She's kind of a terror and still gets into a lot of stuff, and she'll be 3 in March.

Re: parent napping???

over the summer my DD (5) gave up naps-she napped forever.. but my 3 yr old still napped and by midday i was ready to as well! our house is super small so DD was happy to relax on the couch watching a show while i rested on my bed which is next door to the living room. this was only on some days. i am also a light sleeper and DD has never given me reason to worry at all. DS was still in a crib so i wasn't worried about him doing anything. i think it depends on the situation. when my kids were infants people would tell me to nap when they napped but i NEVER could. i was always too worried for some reason.

Re: parent napping???

only if my son is going down for his nap in his pack and play.

or if he's up at the crack of dawn like most mornings, we go in his playroom where I set him up with his bkfast and I lay on the futon with a blanket. WE're usually watching wubzy or pocoyo. Sometimes I doze off but never for more than like 15 min.

he's 3. the cabinets are locked in the house so really he just makes a mess in his playroom with his toys.

my son is 2.5. When I get up with him in the mornings, sometimes i pass in and out on the couch of his playroom but he is in the room with me (gated).

I wouldn't put him in his playroom and go back to bed. I do gate him in his playroom and do housework but I am steps away.

i DO nap when he naps Chat Icon ehhh it is what it is at 33w pregnant.
