Flu Shot

I don't want to get into a debate or argument but are you getting a flu shot this year?

I did and I really didn't want to but my doctor said it was totally necessary and I did a lot of research, most of which seemed to suggest that it is far more dangerous for a pregnant woman to get the flu than the shot. Also, I got the preservative/thimerosol free shot to be on the safe side.

Re: Flu Shot

I am very torn about this..I have never ever gotten the flu shot and knock wood never had the flu..but now that I am pregnant I am so undecided..I lean towards no as I am very afraid that I will have some sort of reaction to it while pregnant..My high risk Doc is ok with my line of thinking but I am still very torn..

I always get the flu shot b/c of health related issues. My OB suggests it to all patients now, particularly those who are pregnant.

Re: Flu Shot

I have heard from different sources that flu cases are already popping up and that it is supposed to be a very bad season. I am getting it now that I have a child and had I been Preg this winter, I'd def get it.

Re: Flu Shot

I just got it...I forgot how much shots hurt! YOWZA! I'm a teacher and it;s already making its appearance in my building...I figured if my OB recommends it, my sister (also an OB) recommends it I should trust. Thanks ladies!

I heard the same thing, the flu is supposed to be extra bad this year. That said, I work in a very high risk setting and still haven't gotten my shot. I probably should get around to that soon!

i've also heard that this year's vaccine is supposed to be VERY good, very close to the strains popping up so this IS the year to get it.

yes. Just like I vaccinate my kids to protect them, I take the flu shot to keep myself and baby well.

I get one every year at work, but they don't offer the preservative free one, so I skipped it this time.

Re: Flu Shot

My dr said it is safe in the first trimester, and doing some research, it said the same. I got it at around 8 weeks.
