Stratego?

I am looking for a gift for my nephew who is turning 7. I thought Battleship - but he has it. Then I thought - Stratego, but when I saw the pictures on the box, I felt like it looked a little...violent? Maybe I'm just a wuss!

Any thoughts on this? Is this ok for a 7 year old? TIA!!!

Re: Stratego?

If you want to get a game - those Lego games are really cute. My little cousin who is 12 still plays with the one I bought him and I bought it a few years ago!

Re: Stratego?

I played this a ton when I was younger. I don't think it is violent, or not that I remember. I believe it is a game of taking over other countries. It's all done by board pieces, nothing actually physical.

There is no violence in Stratego. My DH and I own that game for ourselves and love it, and we just taught our DS to play (who is almost 7). It's a good age to start playing.

It's a strategy game (not taking over countries, that's Risk). One of the game pieces for each player is a flag, and the object of the game is to find your opponent's flag while keeping your opponent from finding yours. The rest of the pieces are mostly military figures (colonel, general, lieutenant, etc) and each one has a "rank". So a piece of a higher rank can "capture" that of a lower rank. But that's all you do-- move various pieces, capture your opponent's pieces, and try to figure out where the flag is.

My boys are 5 and 7.5 and love the game. No violence at all. All strategy. Go for it.
