baby registry

DH and i went to register for our first baby...we are fortunate that we do not need much but there are a few big things we need (bedding, baby monitor, stroller, etc).
We put together a registry and are debating if we want to put smaller items on there too (like outfits and stuff) in case we have friends that want to get us stuff. we are split...he thinks is a good idea bc we know our friends wont spend a ton (nor would they think about chipping in towards a big gifts), but we are also team green so i dont want a zillion green/yellow outfits...id prefer people just pick out gender specific outfits once the baby comes.

wwyd - register for small things too so that there is an assortment of prices on your registry?
or only register for what you need?

Regardless of gender I'd register for small things. like bottles, onsies, spoons, pacifiers, swaddle blankets, sheets, bathtub, bath supplies, etc.

If you aren't finding out the gender I would register for a few small outfits.

If you are finding out the gender I wouldn't register for clothes, IMO people give clothes regardless of your registry if you know the gender.

I was team green and received almost NO clothes. I actually went out and got some because I was worried the baby would be naked for weeks before I got to the store. I mean honestly, most gender neutral stuff is just ehh. BUT I did get a ton of necessitates. Most of my good friends did find out the gender and got a ton ton of really CUTE clothes (esp if they were having girls).

ETA: After DD was born I got so many clothes! I barely used any of the gender neutral outfits I went out and bought after my shower. I never realized people were so generous!

This.

And if you want to register for clothes, you can put both boy and girl clothes on, and then just remove the gender you didn't have after you give birth.

My registry is kind of like my to-do list. It has everything I will eventually need to by for the baby, thus has both big items and really small items.

Re: baby registry

You will receive random clothes at your shower and can shop for deals on clothes. I've been finding great deals at Old Navy (online 30% off coupon+sales), TJMaxx/Marshalls, and just through sales.

The clothes at most registry stores (BBB, Babies R US) are over priced in my opinion. I did have basic white onesies in all the sizes as under shirts and a few other small things like newborn mittens, hats, etc.

You should have an assortment of price points on your registry because to your point, some people will spend more and others won't.

You can start with the necessities and add things on as you go. I did this and I'm happy I did. I checked my registry about a week before my shower and was shocked to see how many things were already purchased. I ended up adding toys and other non-essentials so there was still a selection for people who hadn't shopped yet. We actually got 90% of the small stuff and ended up just having to purchase our expensive stroller (which I kind of expected, unless a group of people went in on it together).

Edited to add: I found a lot of people "threw-in" a small item. So for example, they got me a $50 gift of bedding and then threw in a bath toy or teether ring. These little add-ins really add up.

HTH

We put big and small and things that will be needed later on also like stroller, highchair, bottles, car seats, but also booster seats and child locks, etc. We also out some clothes, onsies, etc, but in a couple of sizes.

Re: baby registry

There are plenty of small things besides clothes. I think it's important to have a wide range of different priced items on a registry.
